Food Delivery

Thailand

Since I sold my stove, I often order from one of the many delivery services here when I am too lazy to go out. There are about three that offer all types of food and the prices are reasonable as well as the delivery. The downside is that these stores usually shut down about 10 pm. The only one that is open 24/7 is MacDonalds and although I don't care for fast food, if I get the munchies at three in the morning I can order from them and within 30 or so minutes I have hot food. I got rid of my stove because I don't know how to cook for one person and I was giving a lot away...which is fine, but not too many Thai's enjoy food with cheese in them and so other things that I love. Now I am thinking about buying a convection oven because I can bake bread and other things that I enjoy. Hopefully I can manage portion better than before.

No doubt it is convenient to order food from a take away once in a while but in the long run , home cooked food is healthier. If you reduce the quantity of ingredients , you will not have much left to give away .

You can get a lot of ideas on the net for cooking for one.

I seldom will order delivery food because I always believe that the home made food is healthier. Of course delivery food is much more convenient and sometimes it is cheaper, too. If I have to order delivery food, usually it will be the pizzas from Pizza Hut and that's all. It is not very difficult to learn cooking. Today you can even learn it via the net.

Your old stove was too big for cooking for one? I don't know how stove over there looks like, so I am a bit curious.

Actually I had an old Philco stove from England. Thai's use a wok and fast fry over a charcoal pit.

@YrNemo It was just an old English style but there was no broiler, just three burners and an oven.

Here we have people that can deliver meals, ready made to your door. It's not fast food, more like meal plans - you pay per week for a set menu. It is difficult to cook for one, so that may be an option for you. That way you would always have a nutritious meal and junk food when you're in the mood. Investigate in your area, it could be done by a private person. The baking is a great idea, share with neighbors and people at work. Sharing is caring.

That is a great idea but unfortunately not available here. While there is a lot of farangs (foreigners) here, it would be too hard to cater to all the different nationalities. And not many Thai's have a clue as to how to cook Western food.

@jaideemai why do you want to cook western foods when Thai food are very delicious already. I wish i know how to cook Thai food. Anyway it is not that hard to cook for one person only you just need to know how much you can eat and it is easy to estimate how much of your ingredients you will need . You just try with small portion of every ingredients and then see if the food will be enough for you or if there's leftovers. So that the next time that you will cook you were just adjusts the amount of ingredients you will cook.

@hotsummer Thai food is great indeed, but sometimes I want something with the taste of home. I have tried your suggestions, but I always make too much!

Good thing they have delivery services to cater for you... I think at least a convection oven would be a good idea. I can't imagine not having any appliances to make your own meals at home...

Good thinking. Investing in a convection oven and learning to cook bread will not only save you bucks but you may learn more about different things you can cook that you will enjoy and be at the same time saving money.

I had a convection oven with microwave. It was great. When it broke down, I stopped baking. Sad but true. If you have a freezer, you can cook a lot and freeze in small portions. That is the easiest way to cook for one.

@jaideemai Not right now. My microwave that I have now is supposed to be an oven. I just feel like it uses too much electricity. I usually divide things into freezer packets before I eat and thus remove the "one more bite" deal.

Freezing was always in the back of my head, but sometimes I will have "just one more bite" and before the day is done, so is the dish. Are you going to buy another oven?

It is so great because in the US we now have companies that delivery just about any food that you want, including McDonald's. We have services called Door Dash, Grub Hub, Uber Eats, and more. When I have a taste for a particular restaurant I just go on one those sites and place my order within an hour my hot food is being delivered to my door and I already paid for it with my credit card or debit card.

That is cool! I use McDonalds delivery because the delivery charge is cheap. For other foods I use FoodPanda.

How about induction cooker? it is alike a stove but use electric. It comes with a wok too. If you like baking, get a cheap oven or a rice cooker. I bake my cakes in a rice cooker.

I find microwaves pretty useful food meals for one. Also, I have a toaster oven with the bake setting that is pretty handy. Website All Recipes has ideas where you can ration out the portion for one. You gotta eat better than fast food.
