I am subject to panic attacks. Very sensitive to anxiety. It starts with a stomach ache and grows into a horrible display of emotions and unrealistic thinking. Others don't usually know(unless,in the midst of it all I post something or talk to my BFF) and couldn't possibly understand how deep and dark it can get at times. Thank goodness I am on a good medication that helps and this doesn't happen more than two or three times a year. I have to get a grip on myself. If I haven't lost it too badly I can talk myself back from the edge as it were. But, if I am lost in it I am just gone. Shaking, crying, pathetic. Do you ever have these attacks of panic and anxiety? And then, when it is all over, do you think to yourself "oh, did I really do all that?" And I move on as if nothing had been that bad.

I've never had a panic attack but I worked with a woman who did. She would go into the bathroom, sit down in a corner and wring her hands and cry. It was a sad sight. It didn't happen too often so she was able to work. sorry that you have those attacks.

I am too. I can see the difference when I have taken my medication and when I haven't. It doesn't happen often.

@RubyHawk ......Only one that helps too. I even did a DNA testing and there is nothing I can take without horrible side effects.

@celticeagle It's good that you have medicine to control your attacks.

It depends. I try not to get that way about certain driving situations but at times, yeah it comes on. I also wonder if I limit myself cause hey, if I try that, I know I'm going to look not so fantastic so I'm not going to go there and do that. Not sure if this makes sense to you.

Saving face. I understand. It builds so I try to get and keep control of it. Sometimes I can and others I can't.

@celticeagle University days got to be the pits. I could easily sail along through English and then I'd go to my Math class and bam, on my face. Prof swearing up and down that I was faking my deep not understanding issues. Just awful and that feeling followed me for years.

@sallypup .....What a dip! My mom had a mean teacher that effects her all her life. Those are formative years. I am lucky to have had some really good teachers. I never went to college though so perhaps I lucked out there. I was very shy growing up and I think I lived inside my own head too much.

oh yes. just yesterday i was thinking if i knew who would win big brother and what my middle son was sending me for my birthday, i could just let myself give in and die. most of this came though from the fact of my life being terrible for days that daughters bf was bringing it on.

My daughter's 12 year old friend from school had panic attacks (her mom told me), but I only witnessed it once. She is also in martial arts with us, but she's a bit shy and isn't big on "fighting". So one time at a belt test a couple years ago, she got her gear on to spar, but then she suddenly burst into tears and ran out the door. Her mother could not get her to stop crying nor get her back inside the studio. After a half hour, the Master got out there and somehow convinced her to come back inside to continue - and she did.

That's a shame. I hope she is seeing a professional about this. I bet she has been holding this anxiety in and fretting about it for days. Poor kid!

@celticeagle I know she had a therapist when she was younger after her parents split . . . but I don't know about now (but she should). The girl has a lot of issues stemming from home - and it's worse at school. The problem is her parents aren't too active about it - too busy with their own lives.

@celticeagle I understand this. It is just when they do it is so hard. I am glad you have figured a way to talk your self down and come back from these attacks.

I don't get panic attacks at all. Back when I was in Law School, I was waiting for the release of grades in Obligations and Contracts. The lawyer-instrutor then was well known for failing a lot of students. For a week of waiting I was having loose bowel movement. I called my sister who is a doctor and told her about my symptoms. She told me I was having anxiety. She said it will just disappear. When I got my grades, everything stopped. I was normal again.

I do and I am always quite shocked that I who am usually so much in control can give into the panic or anxiety but then, we are all much more fragile emotionally than we wish we were I am sure.

I knew a woman once who had panic attacks and had to sit near a door even in church. I think it is more common in women than men and I know it is very difficult to live with.

That is sad. I have a screw ball of a family and I have committed to be here and help the daughter and her son. Sometimes it is a very hard situation.

@celticeagle I can tell from what you have written about it that it is hard. I came from a screwball kind or family too, so can relate.
