i texted my college classmate a few days back to tell her, hey, i just realized you've been at your company for a year now. after a year of applying to many different companies, she finally nabbed one. it was a struggle adjusting at first, but now, a year has passed and she's still there. from the original batch of 24, there's only 12 of them left. others were transfered, others resigned, others were let go off. she was told when she was absorbed by the company that they prefer employees who are dependable. she was the one who told me our classmate was here again for a visit and would like to have a reunion again. however, she updated me that it's going to take a while because our classmate slipped while in the bathroom and had to have stitches on her head. her kids were also sick. we both felt sad for her because last year, she also had to extend her visit when she and her kids got sick. have you ever had a job you eventually liked or eventually got good at? or did you ever got sick while on vacation?

I had my appendix taken out two days before the Christmas holidays began. I had to stay in the hospital and rest at home during the holidays. When the holidays were over, I had to go back to work. Mean!

ugh, what rotten timing. you weren't able to enjoy the holidays. i think only one of my siblings had an appendectomy. why weren't you allowed to recovery fully before going back to work?

@MALUSE but teaching meant you have to stand for long periods of time. plus there's driving/commuting, walking, stair climbing, carrying stuff...

@hereandthere The Christmas holidays last for two weeks here (I was a teacher). Two weeks are the time given for the recovery after an appendix operation. So there was nothing doing! I was officially declared fit again.

@hereandthere i always dreamed to be a nurse. now that i am in the academe, i still practice my profession in the hospital because i cannot let my students do their responsibilities completely. i still insert intravenous cannula, change consumed intravenous fluids, insert foley catheters, and prepare medicines, oral and parenteral.

@sol_cee just a lucky guess. hehe. i figured from lack of sleep and adjusting to a different climate. what would be scary for me would be, say, food poisoning or breaking bones or needing stitches.

Yes, I had it for a month or so. What I really like was the compensation but when PLDT sucks. I lost the job. Now I am jobless again.

@hereandthere Yes, I even post a discussion about it. Yes, PLDT ruined everything. Now I need to wait for them for some deliberation.

Good news that she stayed but it's not good to have sickness in the family.

There's always another time. You can't blame them if they get sick or anything. My last reunion was I think back in 2010 or 2011 but there was no reunion after that. At least you still communicate with each other.

@hereandthere My last job in the States was working for Federal Deposit Insurance. I was the receptionist and created my job and talked to people on the phone that I never met and recognized their voices. The director liked me because I was very good at my job and was professional but my supervisor wanted to get rid of me but she could not. They closed down before I left for Israel.

I'd like to think that all my jobs gave me plenty of room for learning and enjoyment. The last one was tough and demanding, and I had to resign because of chronic fatigue. I've never been employed since. :D

Sick while on vacation? No, never. However, whenever I begin to have some long holiday from work (just staying at home), I would collapse with some bad flu! Never fail!

I enjoyed most of my jobs once I got out of the "low income" ones when I was young.

The summer after I graduated high school, I took on several jobs. I didn't get a good feel for any of them - not just with the work itself but the people there too - so I quit after only being there a week or 2 . I finally got a job in an art store and loved meeting my artist co-workers . . . I finally fit in somewhere! I was there for maybe a year and a half - which back then it seemed like a long time . I've never gotten sick while on vacation, but I've never taken a super long vacation before.

My very first job at the bank is what I liked most. I entered as a new accounts clerk. It was a challenge because I have lots of varied works to do, in addition to the pressure to always be gracious and smiling. Until I became an officer, that I didn't like much so after 5 years of being an officer I finally resigned. I had more than 15 years in that bank.

I am so sorry for your friend. I have been attacked by two robbers who stole my purse one year in Miami, it happened the day before Christmas and two days later it was our wedding anniversary. I had fallen and hurt my head badly, not our best vacation and celebration.

A couple of times I had chest infections when on holiday which spoiled the holiday. I think the airconditioning on the plane has to be the culprit.

Yes, I was sick when on vacation in Ireland. I had coughs and colds at that time that I kept on barking. It was still a good vacation though.
