I want to take a moment to thank my parents on the eve of my wedding anniversary for the beautiful wedding they threw for my loving husband and me.
Tonight at sunset, I will take time out of my day to remember that last time I sat alone with my daddy outside as a single girl. I was all packed for my honeymoon and all ready to become the bride of the most wonderful man I have ever met.
Daddy and I sat in the garden after dinner, talking about anything and everything, just the two of us. We watched the sunset together, and as it set, Daddy said, "I will always love you. You will always be my precious little girl. I wish you a long and happy marriage to that wonderful man you chose to be yours, just as happy as your mother and I have been."
So this evening, as I've done every single year since that special night before my marriage, I will think of you, Daddy.

Oh Dianne, that is so sweet! That actually brought tears to my eyes. I often think about that day that I will have to let go of my own little girl, and let her blossom into a loving wife and future mother. I hope I have the chance to sit alone with her before her wedding and have one last daddy/daughter talk. I, too, want her to know that i will always love her, always support her, and always be there for her.

@DianneN Thanks Dianne. I have set the bar high for my daughter. She deserves nothing but the best, and I want to model that behavior for her, so she can find an amazing guy of her own to someday call her husband.

So touching! I'm sure it was their example that led to your long, happy marriage. Just as your example will lead your children to have long, happy marriages as well.

@DianneN That's good! I'm not at all fond of affection, but my husband is. He gets let down when I don't let him kiss me all the time.. but it's just the person I am. I was raised by single women who were not affectionate towards me

You just brought tears to my eyes. It's so nice to hear that your husband and daughter have such a bond, and I'm sure they will have a similar conversation. At sunset, I will look up into the sky and say an extra special hello to my father. It must have been difficult to see his little girl leave his nest forever. Even though our sons have been on their own for years now, we still wish they'd move back into our house with their loved ones. It won't happen, lol!

@DianneN oooh more goosebumps, but it made me smile. i've seen black and white pictures of my mother and aunts in nice dresses. did you mother sew you dresses? i had a friend whose mom would make them matching dresses because she was the only girl had 2 older brothers.

I loved the look back then when people looked and acted like ladies and gentlemen. Thank you. My mother worked part time in a dress shop when we were teens. I still remember that she worked from 3:00 to 9:00 on Thursdays and from 9:30 to 5:30 on Saturdays. I had a dream a few weeks ago that I met her in the dress shop and we went out for lunch.

@hereandthere Lol! If you knew my mother, you'd know that she couldn't even hem a dress. She wasn't even a cook cook. She surprised me when she told me she knew how to type!

That is so sweet and touching. You had a wonderful dad. He was like my dad the best. I still miss him today and I know how much you must miss yours. It is so good to take the time out and remember these special people in our lives. They are always there with us in our memories.

Thank you! My dad was strick with us, but my brothers and I benefited, although he softened up with me. Dad was very savvy compared to us and steered us in the right direction. I was always good and perfect. lol My husband is just as wonderful as my dad was, but had the benefit of using his brain instead of his back to get ahead in life.
