Enjoying a day's outing

Many people take their dogs with them nowadays, and to just about anywhere. We’ve seen dogs in many tourist areas and it seems more and more places are allowing the entrance of dogs although the stipulation is usually that they be on leads. We’ve seen them being towed behind bikes in child-carriers and some, usually the smaller breeds, perched in baskets on the handle-bars of pushbikes. This one was enjoying a day out watching the Tour du Limousin bike race and was stalwartly facing the breeze. It was a bit cold and bleak but luckily he had his jacket on. I’m sure he would have enjoyed his outing.

This little dog is cute. In most places here in Switzerland you cannot bring your dog. In the restaurants you can if you stay outside, in the food markets and public offices they are not allowed.

I don't recall seeing any in supermarkets but there were dozens at the outdoor markets.

@JudyEv I have seen dogs in the supermarkets in the south of France, many women had the bad habit to put the dog in the food carts.

@LadyDuck I don't think that is very hygienic. I haven't seen it yet in our travels.

@judyev The French and their dogs!! In Paris I used to laugh at the diminutive little old ladies who walked dogs at night, dogs bigger than they were, referred to as "Grands Bâtards".

Certainly there are dogs everywhere. So you know what a 'bastide' is? We come across this word from time to time. I can't help thinking it's 'bas*ard' but I'm sure that's not right.

I have seen pets with frilly hats, ribbons, colorful umbrella on strollers/prams built for real human babies. Believe me, I dare not laugh every time I saw those owners with their pets. (I was told that those people couldn't have children, so they transferred their love to the pet instead...)

I don't like to see them dressed up unless it's to protect them from the weather in some way. I think it's a bit demeaning otherwise.

It is amazing at the many places a dog is allowed now. A lot of our stores allow the customers to bring their dogs in. This one seems quite content.

@JudyEv That is good. We have a couple of places in our tiny town that has bowls for the dogs.

Some restaurants provide drinking bowls outside for dogs which is a good idea.

So this phenomenon is happening all over the world! I thought it was just a trend in my local community! People are taking their dogs everywhere, and it seems like every business and restaurant now allows dogs!

@JudyEv I definitely think it's a bit much! People don't even take their children to as many places as these people take their dogs!

Some can't seem to go anywhere without carting their dogs along with them. I suppose it's okay in a way but sometimes I think it is a bit much.

@JudyEv One lady came to our rummage sale, with her little dog in the basket of her bike. I laughed, it was wearing a darling, turtle neck sweater, sunglasses, and a baseball cap! lol

In France this is becoming a more common everyday. In the US this has been the norm for years. Here on the islands people leave their dogs at home except when they take them to the beach. You don't see people walking dogs on the roads here.

I was barked at very aggressively this morning in a camping site. The dogs are supposed to be always on a lead but someone ignore this.

Some get towed behind a bike in their own little trolley affair. They are pretty spoilt dogs, some of them.
