When you know you're completely out of touch....

I've always been glad to be "in the know" about many things. And I never wanted to feel as if I've lost touch with the world. But this week I realized that I've been a little too isolated and I need to get back in touch with things a little more!
Monday, this past Monday, was a holiday here in Rhode Island. It's called Victory Day. It celebrates the end of WWII. I, however, had no idea, and so I scheduled a run to the food bank. The van dropped me off and when I got to the door, it was locked. I called them from my cell and their voicemail announced that they were closed for the holiday. And so I sat outside their door for 90 minutes waiting for my ride back home. Thankfully, I had a book with me.
When I got home (feeling very stupid, actually), I grabbed my calendar and marked off upcoming holidays so I don't do this again. My nephew apologized for not reminding me of the holiday and my niece got a good laugh that I have finally lost touch with holidays. I know my mother would be laughing at me, too!
Well, I now know that I need to work at keeping in touch so that I don't do this again. I'm so glad it wasn't raining!

It's not like we don't have other things on our mind. Most do anyway. Glad it wasn't raining too. Have a better day okay?

I just wanted to stop by to see if you'd been around since this was written, but it looks like that's a no. I hope you're okay.

Not raining is a plus. Too bad your ride didn't wait around long enough to take you back home, or know that it was closed due to the holiday. Seems your driver was out of touch too. Good thing you had a book with you. That always makes the time pass quickly.

It's easy to lose touch with such an obscure holiday. We don't celebrate it in any state I've lived in. But I know what you are saying. I showed up at Disney World with my pass only to find out it was a blocked out date due to spring break. I didn't remember that I'm blacked out for a few days during the week they deem is their official Spring Break. I had made plans with another and they had bought a ticket so I had to also. I would have just gone home but now I as locked into spending the day. $125 just tossed out the window.

It's so easy to do something like this. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one to forget it was a holiday.

Happened to me once. I was flabbergasted standing outside a big supermarket, couldn't understand why that store should close on that certain day. I felt so silly when I found out that it was a certain holiday. My children laughed when I told them.

Lol...that is sort of like jumping out of bed because your alarm didn't go off only to realize it is Sunday.

I have a calendar in my kitchen that I look on each week to see if there are any holidays.
How is your kitten.
