Pirate Festival 2017

On Saturday, 12th August I got to go to the Minnesota/Iowa Pirate festival in Owatonna,MN.
Owatonna is a beautiful city in Southern Minnesota.
What is a pirate festival? You ask...
It was quite similar to a (small) renaissance festival with a pirate theme. There were clothing, food, and items vendors , all of which were dressed in pirate fashion, and most of which attempting "ye olde pirate speak thar matey" - to varying degrees of success. Additionally there are people in costume and in character wandering the grounds, interacting with people.
There was entertainment including music, comedy, fire juggling and dancing - the latter of which is why I was there - with my dance troupe as we did get to perform.
The crowd was excellent, the weather was lovely and the event itself was so much fun. I do hope we are invited back next year.
While I'm kicking myself for not buying the way cool little knife that I had seen -- (looked like a mini dagger) - my souvenir is a plastic drink tumbler with the logo from the event on it -- which came filled with a (very strong) drink which I only half drank up.

Ah, I just about posted that one, but I wondered if it was alright to do so -- I know some sites are picky about photos posted....

Definitely, I've never been to an event like this but I'd love to attend one someday.
The pirate theme is pretty cool, sounds like a lot of fun. I'm surprised you didn't mention rum once.

I bet I would like a pirate festival. I enjoy Renaissance Festivals, they are awesome!

We don't have that festival here, usually the tribal dance once and often happens in the provinces..I envy them for having this event.

Looks like a lot of fun! At the New Jersey shore where I am from, they do a inner tube race at the end of the summer in the Ocean. Cool time and it draws a good sized crowd. Did you know you in your photo pose you could place a serving tray on your extended hand to serve the other pirates some grog or rum?

It was awesome! That inner tube festival sounds pretty great too - though I've never been "tubing" - have you? Do you go to the inner tube fest? Lol. I didn't think on that with the pose but I did have a flask on me (empty for the most part) for one of the routines

@FayeHazel I go to the tube festival to watch. It is great fun and prizes are awarded. It's called "Hey Rube Get A Tube" It's all good but the after event drinking and socializing is also a lot of fun too. 
I'm sure you can say the same about the pirate festival.

I have been to one or two around the area and they can be quite interesting. I enjoy the different outfits that people choose to wear as well as the performances

Ah yes - there were so many cool knives and bladed items at that vendor.... I still wish I would have bought the little dagger

@FayeHazel - I once worked in Quality Assurance in a call center. I wrote one of my weekly reports in pirate speak. Sent it out before I sent the correct one.
