What uses up more water - handwashing clothes or using a washing machine?

Washing machines have many modes and I always thought that they've less water than individually hand washing clothes. What is your opinion?

I think for me here it is handwashing is using less water. But I dont have a high energy machine.

@pitstop I'm really not sure about this question. It would all depend upon how much water is used, for the rinse cycle.

Yes. Machines have different models that use up different amounts of water.
