The Day After

Innocent Victims

Things went out of control in a jiffy. Emotions raged and soon it was no holds barred fight to finish. Then there was a ray of hope after many bombs were dropped that made all the wars that preceded it to pale into insignificance. There was total destruction with countless causality. Finally the leaders agreed to meet to find a solution and the war was halted. Good sense prevailed and the process for peace was set in motion. A piece of paper of few lines that they agree to coexist was signed to the relief of the masses left to pick the pieces. The basic premise was to stick with status quo ante, the previously existing state of affairs. The leaders said what happened could have been avoided had the other side heeded their warnings. Every leader was blaming others. Soon leaders were talking of rearmament as weapons were used up and that it was a top priority. Scorched earth effects of war made the life of common folks barely livable and crocodile tears were shed even as fresh deals were made for even more powerful weapons. The piece of paper for peace soon gathered dust like the League of Nations and the United Nations. Life was “back to normal” with majority minding own business to keep body and soul together while the few fishing in troubled waters. It is a likely scenario worth preventing in the interest of the 99%. Time to resolve all issues without war and for that we need leaders who work for peace. We cannot be peaceful when we sow seeds of destruction. How plausible is this happening? Image Credit: from Wikipedia

Ah but that is pretty much what is happening right? Chernobyl taught the world something as did Fukushima. The winds will blow the radioactive matter...so if China chooses to use nuclear weapon, the south east and south west winds from the peninsular region of our country are likely to carry them right to its doorsteps. It won't be one time thing too...it would be regular thing for the next 200 to 300 years or even more. Does not make sense in the light of trade relationship it needs to keep its economy buoyant. Not to mention the likely sanctions that will happen with that action. India is taking its chances with that calculation in mind. As to the US and N. Korea, the problem would be too close for comfort for China and it is in Chinese interests so China intervened and even joined sanctions against North Korea from where it imports much of its iron. Now, China needs India for iron ore for its shipping container and other such industries. War is not likely in near future.

@Shiva49 ..Real pearls of wisdom...why is it that some of us reach that destination whereas others even if they are as old as my father remain prejudiced for their entire lives...even if nobody from other religion or race harmed them...beats me..

@vandana7 I have lived among different faiths, studied in Christian and Muslim institutions, lived in a Muslim country and I have deep faith that we are from the same source and with similar feelings. Of course, our body is made up of the same stuff; so obviously our gods work in unison! Prejudice is a very heavy burden. All my life strangers have helped me more than relatives and friends and some of the latter remind me " if we have friends like them, there is no need for enemies" - siva

@vandana7 I always wonder how politicians invent issues out of the blue to trigger tensions that do not matter at all to the vast majority who want to be left alone. I read a headline just now : "A military response to North Korea would be "horrific" but remains an option, the top military adviser to US President Donald Trump says." It is stated 10 million in Seoul can die within thirty minutes of a war! It is time to digest one simple reality: "The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens" as said by Bahá'u'lláh founder of founder of the Bahá'í Faith. He said poignantly " Let your vision be world embracing…” . What he said further can bridge our differences:Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine Educators—known as Manifestations of God—whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Bahá’u’lláh, the latest of these Messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God. Bahá’ís believe the crucial need facing humanity is to find a unifying vision of the future of society and of the nature and purpose of life. I am not a follower of that faith but there are gems of wisdom anywhere, anytime. The words I quoted are near two hundred years old - siva

No matter what happens or what they say today, there is a problem. We can see from what is happening right now. It is that tomorrow another person will come up and start destruction again. Man, if we are to survive, cannot be the ruler of the planet. We can change focus and direction so quickly. We have to return the power to rule back to the Creator.

@Shiva49 In general, we don't even want the right path. We like to dominate and care little for others. The way we are going, we are on the brink of destruction. Only God can stop us!

@1hopefulman Humans are like spoiled children given everything on a silver platter. And we know we are destroying not only ourselves but also taking others to their doom. Nature gives 99% of what we need to exist but we are at each other's throats due to our ego and greed. Personally I don't think we deserve to be saved - siva

If our actions are based on gratefulness we set ourselves on the right path. Then we have to realize we are co-creators as we are at the apex of the creative species. A needed awareness for survival; back to basics - siva

Peace will never exist in this world bar a miracle. This is how I see it. Men will never be satisfied nor live peacefully with one another.

@TiarasOceanView Now it is brinkmanship all the time and with weapons that can obliterate our atmosphere for years we are increasingly reaching a point of no return - siva

It seems something is being triggered now to have World War III, but there are no winners if this happens. Specially if every body is almost listening to social media.

Yeah, I feel our leaders think they have to keep beating the drums of war while the 99% want to live in peace! Whenever I read the rhetoric of leaders I get a feeling they have no clue or inclination to do good and the only way for them to stay relevant is to fuel the fire of hatred - siva

Humans never learn, history is the most useless thing we study, because it repeats itself all the time and we learn nothing from the past. Peace will never exist, because we have leaders who seed hate.

@Shiva49 You are right, normal people have no issues coexisting, while the leaders are only greedy for money, expansion, more natural resources and they only spit hate.

Every faith preaches peace, love, forgiveness but the world is full of the opposite. with our leaders baying for blood of others. Ironically the vast majority have no issues coexisting across our lovely planet - siva

@LadyDuck I recall the words of Chief Seattle after whom the city of Seattle finds its name: "Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." And also the Native American saying: "When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money." But our leaders seem to be blissfully unaware of the consequences of their actions - siva

@Shiva49 Read something similar to what you said (re: Solutions are possible but our leaders think it will make them look weak if they pursue peace ) almost 2 decades ago about the Middle East situation.

@YrNemo We are left to elect politicians as our leaders but we badly need those who have wisdom to pursue peace with a goal - humanity as one. We had one in Nelson Mandela who really forgave his persecutors and advised his followers to do likewise - siva
