Scared like hell

Just now when I went to the kitchen and switched on the light to get water from the fridge, a big black lizard scared the hell out of me.
I came back to my bedroom but when I went again after a while, there was nothing on the kitchen walls.
Now I wonder was it really there or was it just my imagination?
I think it found a perfect place to hide somewhere LOL

Do you know the kind of lizard it is? I like lizards but it is also good to stay clear if you don't know if it is harmful.

@vsao2008 They probably come indoors, to get out of the heat or maybe to find water.

Your posts reminds me of a time I went to the kitchen at night. I was still sleepy when I saw a big black snake coming towards my legs. The lights were on so I wasn't dreaming. I even felt it on my skin when I started screaming and running and jumping on the sofa. My parents came to see what was wrong but there was no snake. I just do not know what happened.
