Washing dishes can be relaxing...

When it comes to dirty dishes one can either load them into the dishwasher or stand at the sink and wash them. While I have a dishwasher at home I never use it because I don't know if it works. I should turn it on and see if it's operational without loading anything in there, but I have yet to do it because I don't have dishwashing liquid at home. And the dishwasher isn't super clean either. So, I stand there every day washing dishes... I find washing dishes to be relaxing, calming, and peaceful. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something useful and if I am down my mood goes up. And I admit that I rather enjoy it. Sometimes, however, the last thing I want to do is stand there and spend a lot of time washing dishes, especially when there is too much to clean and it's hot in the kitchen. But I have no choice. At some point I will run out of clean stuff and will have to wash everything anyway. I should see if the dishwasher works though. Waiting for my husband to do it will mean it probably will never happen. Do you like washing dishes? Do you find it relaxing?

I'm not keen on household jobs in general but washing dishes is something I've always hated. We don't have a dishwasher because we're only two people.

My husband and I are the only people in the house. After we finished eating you'd think there were more than two people based on how much stuff needs to be washed.

We don't have a dishwasher because we never, never wanted one.

@marlina I am living in my parents house that they don't live in anymore but still own. It comes equipped with a dishwasher. I should be ecstatic about that and use it on a regular basis, but haven't yet tested it out to see if it works.

I don't exactly find it relaxing, but I've never minded washing dishes. It's less trouble than using the dish washer.

I would not even know how to operate a dishwasher.

@lovebuglena Then that person isn't using the right thing in the dishwasher or it's an older one. The good ones tell you don't rinse the dishes - mine always come out clean and perfect.

Washing dishes is time consuming though. Dishwasher saves a great deal of time. And doesn't tire a person out. So, the dishwasher does have its benefits. Doesn't always wash everything off the dishes though. Sometimes, you have to hand wash the dishes after the dishwasher does its job.

I have always hand washed our dishes and my husband dries them. And we have great conversations while doing so.

Usually I am the one to wash the dishes. Sometimes my husband does it when I ask him to. And on a rare occasion he will do it himself without me asking. But when any one of us washes dishes we place them onto the dish rack to dry. And whatever doesn't fit we put into the dishwasher (w/o turning it on) and get them out of there once they've dried on their own. We never wipe them.

I prefer to spend time doing fun things and washing dishes by hand isn't fun. I have a beautiful view from my kitchen window but I'd rather be outside enjoying it than inside

If I had to choose between washing dishes and going outside to enjoy the view I'd choose the view any day. Sometimes I don't wash the dishes right away, but then they pile up and there is even more to wash at one time, which can be very exhausting.

I don't find it relaxing. I prefer folding laundry or vaccuming.

I'd rather wash dishes than clean. I don't mind doing laundry though.

I handwash the dishes. My fiance does the cooking and I wash the dishes. I don't enjoy washing dishes but I don't mind doing them. It is worse after a big meal like Christmas or Thanksgiving.

@Happy2BeMe Would sure be nice if hubby just went and washed everything without me asking him to do it. On a rare occasion he does, but I wish it was more often. Oh, and sometimes he washes everything but leaves the pots and pans for me...

I can't say I enjoy it but do it because I don't like to see dirty dishes pile up and so I do them quickly after each meal.

It tires me out too, at times. And makes me very hot these summer days. I'd rather load the dishwasher. I am gonna buy some dish washing liquid and see if the machine works. It better!

I don't have a dishwater except for my two hands. No, the dishes are just a chore though you do get a sense of getting something done.

I don't like washing dishes. When I was growing up it was 6 of us all together and I just got burned out on washing dishes. I want to get a state of the art dishwasher. I know that you can't wash like the big pots and pans in them but that's okay. I need a dishwasher in my life.

Good idea. So many to choose from. How do you pick which to get?
