A cheap birthday gift

Hi Mylot! So, as you may have guessed -- I'm a little broke right now. You know what? I shouldn't say that. I have enough to get by and pay my bills and even do the occasional fun thing here and there, but it's true, I must watch my (few) pennies before they run away, else I will be literally broke. So- a friend's birthday just happened a few days ago. We are not super close - but we do trade gifts. So here's me - not wanting to spend a lot , but still wanting to get something nice for her. I happened along a display rack of keychains in the "sale" section of a local big box store. Original price $3.97. Sale price: 0.75. I searched around and found a stylish one with little blue "gem" style beads and charms on it. My friend has a necklace of a similar style with different colors on it. *idea* I removed the "key fob" part - keeping the decoration. Then I took a coordinating colored "rope" necklace, to thread the decoration part of the keychain on. Now it's a pendant! I went into the card aisle and picked out a 0.99 cent card. Total cost : Appx. 1.75 With some ingenuity, repurposing and quick thinking I was able to get my friend something cool in her style and save money at the same time.

You are great to be so imaginative Faye! Nothing wrong with saving even when buying gifts. She will be just as pleased with that I am sure as if you had spent a lot.

Thanks! I think that's right -- spending wisely is always nice. I knew she got my gifts at the dollar store but I didn't mind it -- she thought of me when she got me something. :-)

So true. Not spending is almost as important as how much you make to being with

Thanks! I agree. I would rather have a thoughtful gift any day over a big expensive thing that wasn't to my tastes...

I love it when I can see a clear vision to turn one object into something different. Of course - usually- when I do that the items sit around because the transformation takes too many steps... lol
