The Bridge of Flowers

Canada
August 20, 2017 11:34am CST
While visiting my Sister In Law in Vermont after Camping, one of the places we visited was the Bridge Of Flowers. We took the mountain way to go to Shelburne Falls in Massachusetts. I had never heard of it and my SIL hadn't been there so we went. A fascinating place, small town, beautiful and some other historical places to see while there too. The bridge was the original Trolley bridge built in 1908 and after cars and trucks came in on the picture the railway went bankrupt. In 1928 the local Women's Club decided to do something with the bridge and they started planting. By 1929 it was becoming a garden. For more information look at the link below. I took a lot of photos and the flowers and the fact it is a bridge made it a fun thing to visit. Once we crossed the Bridge of Flowers we walked back to town on the Bridge that is used by cars and trucks today. It was a colorful and buzzing with bees, visit.
We invite you to stroll across the Bridge of Flowers from Bulb Season, to Dahlia Season and every bloom season in between.

Beautiful collage. I'm getting a whole new idea bout the east coast thanks to people like you, I used to think it was all skyscrapers and buildings but seein this I can see there are at least a few trees among the buildings.

My friend from Kansas who traveled home with me to see New England. She thought the same, it would be all cement, she was disappointed to see so much mountains and trees..., she wanted to see big cities...

I love this place and have been there several times. Sadly I haven't visited in many years. When there I would also go to the potholes. Both are great places to visit.

@PainsOnSlate I haven't been to Saratoga since my teens. Not much into horse racing these days. Shopping on the other hand....

I have some photos of the pot holes and will get to that story. I am in upstate NY right now, hubby has a week off so his vacation is Saratoga. Staying with my sister , loving the track. Today is the Travers, we head back to Canada tomorrow. Hubby grew up in North Adams, so we go to the track with his old friends, yesterday he golfed with one in NA, I stayed here with my sister...shopping

@ElusiveButterfly we never lived here as adults, so the track was, like you, something to do once in a while. When we visit family, if it's racing season, we like to lose money betting on the horses...just kidding...

The Bridge of Flowers is about a half hour away from me and I try to go a couple of times during the summer months. It is really beautiful and fragrant. It is a very original work of art and there are subtle differences every year.

There is another mylotter who lives near there, maybe we should get together next summer for the tour and lunch. I live in Canada but my sister-in-law lives in Vermont and I visit her every summer.

@PainsOnSlate I would love to visit that area, but want to see our country first. My husband has always wanted to go to the US Eastern seaboard to visit.

What a lovely idea! I have read about the High Line in New York though never seen it - perhaps this bridge was the inspiration behind that idea!

I have never seen anything like it before. I believe it is a great way to use old bridges without taking them down, and It is healthy to have more plants and less fumes.

I would love to visit there and take photos. The little building in the photo by the end of the bridge looks like some kind of old mill. I love exploring little towns I've never been to before.

It was a delightful day for us, we both love to see new things so when I arrive in Massachusetts, she usually has picked out a few place to visit...The town was full of history and a lot of old buildings.

wow, so beautiful. Do they collect 'entrance fee'? Seems as they don't but people are welcomed to donate. Love their flowers.

No fee, It's run by the town's garden club, probably takes lots of denotations.
