Another disaster, this time at sea

The Navy Ship, USS John McCain was in an accident while at sea and ten United States Navy sailors are missing near Singapore today. This is extremely upsetting to my family as my grandson recently joined the Navy. He is only 20 years old and still new at this whole thing. He is also training to become a Navy Seal. I thought grandparents are suppose to retire and live life of peace and quiet. I am still waiting for that to happen. I pray they find the missing sailors.

I have read that the USS John Mc Cain has collided with an oil tanker near Singapore. I wonder how things like this can happen with all the modern technology.

I was thinking the same thing Anna. Those Navy warships have some of the greatest technology available on the planet. Not only should they have been able to see that cargo ship from half the world away, they should have also been able to tell what the crew on that ship was eating for dinner!

@LadyDuck It is incredible that this can happen. Sometimes I think we are told things that are not true to keep it private until they know more.

@moffittjc That is exactly what I was thinking. Someone is hiding something.

Oh my goodness, that is terrifying. I hope they are all found. My step brother is in the Navy, so it hits home as well.

Me to as my oldest grandson, (20) recently joined the Navy and will start Seal training in the fall. He already passed the test and I am worried sick. So is my daughter, his mom.

I am very troubled at the news of yet another warship colliding with a merchant ship. That's the fourth Navy accident this year. Totally unacceptable, especially with the technology they have at their disposal on those ships. It has to be nothing short of total incompetence on the part of the captain. And sadly, many sailors have now lost their lives for such careless behavior.

@ramapo17 Wow, that is one awesome accomplishment if he got selected to train to become a SEAL! Not everyone is good enough to do that! I had one of my former lifeguards join the Navy and become a SEAL after he graduated from college. He was on SEAL Team 3 at the time the SEALs got Osama Bin Laden. But it was SEAL Team 6 who took down Bin Laden.

@moffittjc I remember that well. My grandson will have to go through the training and I wonder if he can do it. He will have no problem with swimming underwater as he did some of that already and they were surprised at him. His other set of grandparents have a big home on Martha's Vineyard and he spends the summers up there. He has been up there since May and works underwater saving the animals that are stuck with crap that people throw in the water.
