*It takes a skill-

the hand of the man who sewed the zipper

- To repair a zipper that is no longer working. I posted a picture of my white uniform pants in a discussion of a mylotter here (@ilocosboy’s Yes, that pair of white pants was what I wore last Tuesday for our case colloquium in school. Since I grew fatter, my pants were getting tighter, and I just noticed my pants’ zipper was damaged when I was home. It was good I wore a long blouse. I thought the zipper was destroyed when I was already home; it was still okay when I was in school. I thought of bringing my pants to a nearby neighbor but her dress shop was closed for several days now. So this morning at 10AM, my son accompanied me to have my pants be repaired. The man who fixed the zipper is really a skilled man. He sewed the zipper of my pants with much confidence and ease. With a little of this and a little of that, my pants’ zipper were done. It took just 10 minutes to repair my pants. Although I know the skill of sewing, I have not yet mastered putting on a zipper in pants or skirt. I can sew simple dresses but I have to stitch buttons or hooks and eyes. Can you sew a zipper?

@ridingbet My mother has an old manual type, but the zipper tip is available also for the old sewing machines.

our sewing machine here is the old manual type, not electricity-powered. so if i have to start sewing a corner, i have the lift that 'stick' at the back of the needle and move the cloth forward and back.

I've never tried to sew a zipper. I stay away from sewing and buy new clothes rather than bother sewing.

how about bringing your clothes to a dress shop when a zipper is damaged?

@ridingbet It's pretty expensive. If it's an expensive piece of clothing I will bring it to a dress shop but 98% of the time I don't.

Gosh..yes I know how to use the sewing machine because I make new clothes style from my old clothes ..Sometimes if one of my friends had so many old clothes instead of throwing it away they give it to me and I will make some little changes to make it up to date and sell..hehehe..it is not much but good

I lived with my grandmother when I was growing up. She was the perfect person who sewed all the time. She taught me how to sew. So today I can sew a zipper on anything because of her.

wow, that is great. so, if there is a skirt or pants that have zippers that no longer move, maybe you can sit and change it to new zippers.

Mom is a professional dressmaker. I love dressing up and I can say that I am a fashionista but I don't know why I did not learn how to operate a sewing machine.Hmmmm. When we were younger,I and my brother would manually sew the clothes of our dolls. He has Ken and I have barbie hehebe. Now my mom's sewing machine sits lonely in the corner of her dresshop turned dining room.

@ridingbet unfortunately , no one. Nonetheless,my brother and I like fashion. Most people say we always look so put together. Most probably we got this from our mom.

I am not good at sewing at all. I hate when I have to sew on a button. I have someone I went to that it did not take long for him to put a new zipper in my jacket I like to wear.

last Saturday, i brought anothe pair of white pants/ uniform again to that tailoring shop and told the man to repair. the zipper is damaged. i think it is because of my weight gain that almost all of my pants are tight-fitting already.

sewing should be inherent in a woman but i think not all women want to learn how to sew in a machine

To sew zipper, you just need a special 'foot' (accessory, come with the sewing machine if you buy it new) for the sewing. It will guide the needle to be at a certain distance to the teeth of the zipper.

I believe this site pays its members with active participation and interaction. I agree to that a hundred percent. But what if you read a comment of somebody...

I would have a Taylor do it for me, I have little experience with sewing. I did it for a few clothes but it wasn't tough. What you did was logical, but I wonder why didn't just buy another one? or just have sewed an entirely new uniform fit for you.
