My Torture would be Sleep Deprivation

Are your sleeping habits unpredictable? I usually go in spurts; I will sleep for a week, every night, in a wonderful cocoon of slumber. Then, a week like last week rolls around and I average three hours of sleep a night, broken up in 15 minute intervals. Last week the arthritis in my neck (car accident at 18) was what kept me from sleeping. Right now it is 4:30am, and I have been up for an hour. I don't mind waking up early in the morning, but I would prefer to sleep at least until 5am. In college, I got so used to 7:30am classes I would automatically wake up at 6am. Even after college was over my body was so used to it I never had to set my alarm. Anyone feel like sharing their thoughts and feelings about that alluring siren called sleep?

My mom always said the last time she ever slept through the night was prior to having children.

@AmbiePam Oh your Mom said that too? In my case, it started a syndrome.

It sucks to have sleep issues. I suffer from insomnia so I cannot just fall asleep at my own free will. I wish I could just doze of like normal people and get at least 8 hours of sleep. When I finally do go to sleep I wake up frequently throughout the night. You might need to try some type of sleeping pills.

I have before. Some didn't work, but one worked. However, that one also led me to drive in my sleep and hit a street sign. That freaked me out so much I'm hesitant to try another.

I have a friend that has similar sleep problems. It continues to be a problem. I try to go to bed at midnight and most of the time I fall asleep but have to get up to use the washroom about every hour to one and a half hours. When I can't sleep, I stay in bed as I want to keep the pattern going. In the morning it is a challenge to wake up as then I'm sleeping well. Of course, what works for one person does not work for another.

No. I can't nap anymore. I could nap just fine when I was a kid and in my teens, but something changed in my twenties.

I usually sleep pretty well, but I use a sleep cocktail at night so to speak. I take an aspirin, a tylenol, and a diphenhydramine type tablet. The combo will knock me out and I sleep well. Without them I would be hard pressed to sleep and stay asleep.

I have always slept really well until recently. All of a sudden I wake up at 2, 4 and then 7am. I just can't get comfortable it seems, either I'm too hot or my back hurts.

I have trouble falling asleep now but I try to go to bed at around 9pm. Before we sleep as early as 8pm maybe because we are really tired. I'm used to waking up as early as 4am but lately I woke up at 6am

That doesn't sound restful. As soon as my head hits the pillow, I'm out until whenever I wake up.

I've had so many schedules for sleep, working all different shifts, just not at the same time. I can accommodate any sleep patter necessary after about a week and then it becomes habit and I no longer need an alarm. Now that I'm retired, I'm used to getting up early, and my inner clock has me up approximately the same time every day. I do have those nights when I get very little sleep, and I'm awake within a couple hours of going to bed, and not just to get up for the bathroom. I'm not happy with those nights because it always means I'm going to need a nap during the day to get back to normal.

I can't remember the last time I slept right through. I got to bed around 10 or 11 and if I'm really lucky I might make it through to 4am. Then I mostly lay there till around 6 when I get up.

Sleeplessness is brutal for sure! Usually I'm a night owl, but sometimes it changes around

I am not a good sleeper either. I think that between the back aches and the habit of waking every few hours I am doomed to be like this for life. I have to say that I slept like a baby last Saturday night.....and it was nice.

I am not a good sleeper, I have always been unable to sleep for many hours. I usually sleep around 4 hours per night, when I am lucky.
