Cutting back on caffeine

My three boxes of tea

My doctor told me I needed to cut down on caffeine because it's hard on my kidneys. I went to ShopRite to pick up my prescriptions and decided to look for mint tea and caffeine free soda (pop). Not all the sodas I like are caffeine free, so I got some regular kinds since my daughter and I both drink them. I ended up with three 2-liters of caffeine free options and three 12-packs of diet, one caffeine free. But then I went looking for mint tea, which was in the opposite side of the store (why aren't all the beverages in the same section??) There weren't too many and many were combined with green tea, which has caffeine. But I saw one in the herbal tea as well as a chai tea made with Rooibos tea (which tastes very much like black tea but has no caffeine) and another one with apple cinnamon seasoning. I'm drinking the chai tea right now and it's pretty darned good. I love chai tea when I'm at an Indian restaurant. I just don't have milk in this like they do, but I might do that next time. Still, it's really quite good. I'm looking forward to trying the other two. Have you tried anything like one of these? Did you like them?

I love Chai but have not had it in a long while. I get very little caffeine anyway at one cup of coffee per day. Good luck and I hope you find some teas you like.

So far so good. I won't buy decaf coffee for home until my coffee is gone. But I do now ask for it at Starbucks and Dunkin.

@jerzgirl I bought some but there is something wrong with it because it seems to hype me up just as much lol

@TiarasOceanView At Starbucks or Dunkin? I don't really drink it to wake up, but I get the same overall feeling of satisfaction from a good cup of GOOD decaf coffee in the morning as I do caffeinated coffee, so maybe you responded to it like a placebo - or they screwed up and gave you hi-test instead.

That would be a good reason not to try them. These aren't traditional teas, though. They are herb teas, but because they are steeped in hot water, they create a tea style of drink. I'd much rather drink these than try dandelion tea. Just sounds kinds icky to me.

@jerzgirl I have never tried any dandelion tea. By the way, I am a Jersey girl to but now live in Florida. Born and raised in Jersey and had my kids there and eventually moved to the Poconos and then here in Florida. My inlaw's lived in Whiting which I think is Gloucester County.

Going caffeine free would kill my head. That chai tea sounds amazing.

My daughter predicted I'd be having major headaches, but I'm not totally caffeine free. More drinking less of it than before. If I can ever find Diet Rite soda, I can go totally caffeine free because that stuff has no sodium, caffeine or sugar. It's an RC product, but super hard to find here in the Philly metro area.

Or anything similar in other brands? I need to edit this to reflect that. Thanks for responding!
