Too short, too long, too tight, too loose..... DRESS HUNTING!

United States
August 22, 2017 1:56am CST
Last week, my mom + I caught up and had lunch and we went shopping! Our goal was to find some dresses for upcoming events and just our luck, we didn't find any that we liked or looked decent on us. I did however purchase some blouses and a pair of jeans instead. I have been shopping online and made a couple of purchases and well.... they arrived and it was a fail. The dresses that fit were way too short and revealing. The ones that could work out, were way too tight or loose. I'm sick of dress hunting! Dress hunting is probably the worse for me because I vary in brands, styles, material, etc. I have two more dresses delivering home this week and fingers crossed they'll work out. I am so jelly of those who can just pick a size and the dress works out for them! Totally lucky

I don't remember the last time I wore or even owned a dress. Maybe you need to have some special made.

I have some custom made dresses my dad made for me when he went to Vietnam but I don't fit them anymore I ordered two more dresses and hopefully they'll fit. If not, I have some dresses I wore before that will do but I just wanted a new one.

I haven't really bought clothes online (only some shirts for the kids) - I'm too chicken as I still like to see in person what I'm buying. For myself regarding dresses, I may have mentioned I am big on thrift shopping - and most of the time I can eyeball the dress size to know if I can fit it in well or not (numbers don't matter sometimes with thrift clothing . . . often it is smaller than what it says on the tag). I don't like to try on thrift clothes - I want them washed well first, so I've really had to learn to eyeball things well. This week I found 2 summer dresses - 99 cents each and they actually fit! The thing is the smaller stuff is usually the leftovers at the thrift store . . . so I get to snag 'em .

@infatuatedbby That too - about shipping - I don't like paying anything extra! I am very picky about what I get at thrift shops. I do like the challenge of finding what I think are good finds for super cheap. I pick shops that have those sale days - one even has 99 cent racks that changes out completely every Thursday. But I know another shop that sometimes has a 29 cent rack, but that stuff is trash worth, so I don't bother with that. And you're right, there are certain stores that do price their items sky high for what it is - I don't touch that stuff either. Some shops just are better than others.

@much2say I don't like paying extra for shipping either That's a waste especially if I don't fit or like the item either. If there's store pick up option I'll do that too, to avoid any shipping charges. We went to some thrift stores and I picked up a pair of jeans they were like $12. Used! Knowing me I can find a good designer brand using macys coupons for cheaper or around $20. Then when I'm done wearing them I could sell em'

I will only buy online if I can return it in stores and I don't want to pay shipping either. Wow you scored great at the thrift stores! I have visited mine and they are not cheap........... I hear people finding gems and the clothes I see are so pricey and outdated. It must vary because no one here donates anything good

@infatuatedbby I only have to pay attention at the color, some colors make me look sick, like the blue, the purple and the bright red. I need to wear pastel colors, both black and white are fine.

I would be like you as I have lost so much weight, I have no idea of what size I really would need, and I am sure each brand would fit a little differently especially if they have Elastic wastes, etc. Just because a person weighs a certain amount means it is easy for them to buy new clothes. Thankfully there will always be a lot of different styles colors and name brands to choose from.

Yes ! If only we women were simple as men. Majority of the time they grab their size and it works out! For me, I vary depending material, brand, type of clothing, style etc too

Hey...that is my problem too...I buy something it is too short, too long, too lose or too tight...and the dresses that seem to be just right happen to be made from material that I wouldn't dare to wear because I perspire in them.

@infatuatedbby .. I also know one dress, which I loved...really loved..and it was fitting me well too, my friend dropped in with her sister, it fit her sister so she picked it up and left...I was kinda ..hey that is the only dress that ever fit me and may be it is not in my luck ..to wear such stuff.

I'm one who needs to shop in a store to see the details and feel the fabric. I usually have better luck that way. I know just how something will look on me by eyeing it.

@infatuatedbby Those online clothes always look so tempting, but I've learned my lesson over the years. I had to return many for the same reasons you mentioned., even though I've worn the same size for years and years.

It's tricky to get a good fit. I have heard people buy dresses they like, but then have them tailored. However, that's just not in my budget.

This is why when I buy clothes online, I will check the size and look at the buyers' reviews carefully. And usually the clothes I bought online were fine.

I have a hard time selecting my size if there's a zipper. If it's standard size like S / M / L - I can do that but size 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 sizes hard for me.
