Phone Harassment Do You Know How To Handle It?

Most people do not know their rights when it comes to phone harassment, I learned my rights back in 2007. Someone called night and day and hung on for a few minutes and hung up, I could hear the t.v. or them just breathing. Although I had caller ID, we paid for it back then, they would get around it. So I made a few calls and I began the process of 1) the warning first and 2) if it continued sending them to jail and court. I had Bell South and I called them and made the report and each time they called I had a number to call and report the last call. Within weeks they had them. I am sure it was two different people, I sort of knew it was when I seen the police at their door(s). Now to today and cell phones and the new land line through the mobile services. I get calls all day about credit card debt, medical supplies and more, that is why I keep the business phone off and the cell on silent till I wake. Today I got the same call within hours. Tony hit the 3 for the do not call list on the first call. I got the next one and I hit the 8 to talk to them I let him know that what he is doing is harassing me and that I have asked 50 times for them not to call and from this day on the police would be involved and they would be in court for harassing me when I have clearly told them I di not have a credit card. His response was " Understood" and he hung up. I will write this down and each time I get this call I will write down the number. Every dealt with phone harassment?

No, I can't say I have. Some years ago we got calls telling us how to invest our money and what to buy at stock exchange. But whoever that was soon lost interest in us.

Only slightly, never to this extreme, I do not answer them the first time to tell them I do not have a card or if I do, or anything else. If something becomes a repeat number, especially if I have done some research and see it as spam associated, I will "answer" the call and lay the phone down, next to the fan or some other source of "white noise". Seems to stop them and I never say a word.

Oh yeah and if I get irritated I give them an ear full. I did get one about something with the Ipad being hacked or something. I don't have one but I let him go on and on and on. At the end I said so now that I wasted your time, I don't have one and then I hung up! I also got one about windows and he said to get on (could hardly understand him) I pretended not to understand him and I said my windows? He said yes can you please open. I said ohhh no I don't want to it is cold outside. We went around a few times, he finally hung up on me! I answer when bored, don't when I don't wanna.

When I worked for a Telco company based in the US, I got few calls complaining that they are being harassed. What we tell them to call the hotline for do not call list and report the number.

We used to get prank callers a lot when I was a kid. I remember one person kept calling over and over again asking for "Bobby." There was no Bobby in our house and this person was told this over and over again...finally one day when the guy called five times in a row, my dad blew a fuse and screamed curse words in the phone at him, and the prankster never called our number again. As for cell phones...I just don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. I miss my old phone, as it had the option to block numbers. This one I have now doesn't, so every now and then I'll get bombarded with calls from debt collectors, online university recruiters, and the like. What annoys me is when they use a local area code to trick you into answering. Unless I'm expecting a call from a local number (and don't already know the number,) I won't answer it if I don't recognize who it's from.

I don't deal with it, I just hang up on the person as soon as they open their mouth. They don't get it as they're still talking as I slam the phone in their ear.

@andriaperry No, they're not bots. I know the difference. Some will try to pronounce my last name, some will ask if they're speaking to me with a question in their voice. I just politely tell them I'm not interested, but when they continue as if they hadn't heard me, I hang up and it would hurt their ears.

These are bots and you have to punch a number to connect to a person.

No, I haven\t. Here we don't have people calling us like that. I know my mom and dad had these issues when I use to visit. I can't believe how many people call random numbers all the time. Most of them use a VPN service and route the calls through the US. Most of the callers to my parent's home were from India or some other country. Not sure which.

Usually, we see who is calling with our phone Id or on the TV. If we don't recognize the area code or number, we don't answer. We block calls on our cell phones.

I did telemarketing for two months out in California. If someone said "remove me from your list", we did so, no questions asked.
