I am now afraid of Elevators!

I have always been a little afraid of elevators because you hear the stories of people getting trapped in them when one malfunctions and that thought scares me a lot. But, two or three days ago, I read the most devastating news story that makes me not want to ride one again! What happened , will involve a HUGE lawsuit, I am thinking. A 30 something woman, who had a husband and two young kids, had just given birth to her third child through a Cesarean Section. She was being rolled in her hospital cot from the delivery room to her hospital room. When she and the hospital attendant, rolled into the elevator, something happened right then. She was part way in the elevator, when it started to go up, and according to the article, it chopped her in half !!! Can you believe she lost her life like that? That poor woman and her poor surviving family. I just can't imagine! I have always wanted to visit two different sky scrapers which would involve me riding an elevator. If I get the opportunity to do so, I will do it reluctantly. If I am visiting a place with 7 or 8 floors and I need to go to one of those floors, I am going to find the stairs. Taking the stairs would be safer I think and it would give me more exercise in the long run.

I heard of that story, very sad. In hospitals, most of the time, you can't avoid elevators, so it's a complex situation. I try to avoid elevators, especially when I'm alone, I prefer the stairs and it takes less time. I'm no professional athlete, but here buildings usually have few floors.

That is true about hospitals and transporting patients, but if I visit one with many floors, I will find the stairs.

Some mechanical issue. I am sure the hospital will be faced with a lawsuit.

I almost got trapped in one and I have avoided them since. I climbed 7 flights of stairs already. That is an awful story - like something from a horror movie.

That is horrible! I've never minded elevators, but now I may just get nervous around them. I may just think twice about getting onto an elevator.

Where did you read that? I usually find all the odd stories and haven't seen that. I don't care for elavators,..the worst for me was the exprpess elevator from the ground to the top of the Pru (Prudential Building in Boston) - I literally felt like I was in a rocket... Going down was just as fast.

Me and elevators are not friends either @LeaPea2417 . I don't like heights period and always take the stairs. Yeah, I'd be suing if I was that husband.
