WHAT WORKS FOR YOU?

When the weather is very hot, and you reach for a cooling drink - what would be your choice? Over the years, plain water, coconut water or blended fruit punch would do the job for me - but not any more. I just can't seem to beat this oppressive heat. Is there a special cooling drink that works for you?

I would mostly stick to water but if I'm out and about I wet my hat and wring it out. I always wear a hat outside in the summer and a wet hat is really cooling.

Someone told me once about a cooling scarf. It is supposed to keep one's neck cool. I should check online to see if it really exists.

@LoriAMoore Really? - and how long does the coolness last ?

@LoriAMoore Yes, Agreed! The Wet Scarf Should Exert some Coolness along the Neck nerve

I love cold tea, I think the mint flavored one is perfect for summer. I've recently discovered spray deodorant all over my body keeps me fresh. So I don't have to shower like 10 times per day, I just spray and I'm fine for a few hours. But of course, it is not something I drink.

I find myself showering up to four times a day - that's the only time I really feel cool. I'll try the mint flavored iced tea.

Years ago it wasn't this bad. I think climate change is to blame. No hope of relief until November/ December.

Sounds like it is really heating up there. Here on the islands when it is this hot I go and jump in the river to cool off. The river is nice and fresh and does the trick. But first I need to drink a lot of cold water. I mean ice water to get me cooled down on the inside first so I can cool down the outside next.

@Kandae11 In that time of the year starts our heat for the summer months. Right now it is a bit cooler on the islands, but still very warm.

Unless we get a hurricane (and I hope not) - there is no real relief in sight until November/December.

The drink that I feel like drinking just for that feeling is Pepsi or Coke. I know about the sugar and all but it's tempting and that taste is like good. When I finish drinking it though I drink water lol not to even it out as there's no such thing as drinking bad drinks then evening it out with water but to take the thirst 100% lol.

I know those drinks are tempting, but years ago when I drank sodas they didn't really quench my thirst. I would drink water afterwards and that helped.

@fearjp Try the three months first and after awhile you won't miss it. There are healthier substitutes out there.

I love a peach and apricot fruit juice or a berry fruit juice with tons of ice. I fill the glass with ice right to the top.

@alexjessi I love ice-cream very much, but I hardly ever have it because it is not too healthy for me. So even though I may enjoy it when I have it, I will feel guilty because I know I shouldn't be having it.

I like coconut water a lot, but we drink a lot of iced black tea, using eight bags to about a quart or so of near-boiling water, then dilute it to taste with lots of ice.
