Would you pay $1000 for a smartphone?

I just came across a new story that said the cheapest new iPhone 8 will most likely cost $999. It is expected to have 64GB of storage which is more than the base models of the past have had, but STILL! A thousand dollars for your base model smartphone? I don't know about that.
It is no secret that Apple has been struggling without Steve Jobs. This move might really have iPhone sales faltering. I know that, personally, I've been waiting for the iPhone 8 to come out to upgrade my 5S. I desperately need a new iPhone as I'm out of storage and the battery on my phone is dying.
That being said, I really can't see myself paying $1000 for a new smartphone. And I say that as someone who has been known to spend a lot of money to get what I want and who could afford the price tag of the new iPhone 8. I just can't imagine spending that kind of money on a phone on principle.
Would YOU spend $999 on a smartphone? Why or why not?

Oh wow...you spend that much on petrol? Which bike is that? Blink...dad uses old Hero Honda, we spend only about 2000 INR per month or so, and that too dad uses it each and every day...going to his friends' places, or for some work here and there.

If I wanted that iPhone 8 I'd wait for a few years so the price goes down.
I have a 5S and I think it will last for a long time. Many say the next iPhones aren't that better, the performance has been the same for a while, so I see no value.
And I don't need a new smartphone anyway.
Apple fans are more likely to spend $999, so it's up to them to keep the brand alive.

@NJChicaa Yes, obviously 'they' do whatever they can to make our phones become outdated. I try to avoid updates because they're usually made for 'superior' iPhones and battery always get weaker with time. It is not worth spending $1000 though, better to go for a 6 or 7 if you really want something more, or go for a different brand. But iPhones are good, my Samsung used to freeze a lot of times.

@sabtraversa oh I am definitely sticking with an iPhone. I'd never go to Android.

Hell No, I wouldn't! I wouldn't pay 100 dollars for a phone for that matter. My low end smartphone leaves something to be desired..mostly space, and it does have some battery issues..but it cost me no more than 30 bucks, has a decent camera and does what I want it do for the most part. To me, no phone is worth that kind of money!

Never because I have an inexpensive Android that does a good job. I don't need to spend that kind of money.

I wouldn't spend $9 on a smartphone as I have no desire to possess such a toy.

@NJChicaa I would be the exception. What would I need one for? I barely even need a regular phone and I don't like looking at tiny screens.

Can't afford it, especially when about the only thing I use my phone for is this.
