MATCHING UP.

I recall years ago when I just didn't feel well dressed or well put together if my handbag wasn't perfectly matched with my shoes, other accessories - or even one item of clothing that I was wearing. After awhile, matching up became less important and people seemed to mix and match in whatever way they pleased. When I worked nine to five in an office, I preferred to carry a briefcase - and there was no need to match up footwear or clothing with that. However , when going out to dinner , partying, shopping or other outdoor activities, I still prefer to match up and feel well put together. Do you like matching up, or it doesn't matter ? And what about size - do you prefer large or small handbags?

I now prefer comfortable garments. But when I was young, I liked nice handbags and shoes. I never did wear stilettos though.

I wore stilettos years ago - but only to have pictures taken for a fashion promo.

I match. Can't help myself, because that's how I was raised. I use large bags mainly to hold my iPad. For dressy evening occasions, I always use a smaller bag or fancy clutch.

I used to be better about "mostly" matching . . . but with handbags I was ok with not exactly matching. I'd get neutral color purses so it would go with just about anything - and I still do that . . . except now I only use one purse as I don't like to change out purses all the time. I used to love large handbags - but I realized I looked like I was carrying luggage . . . so I like a medium size (the small ones can't hold all my stuff ).

@Kandae11 Right now I carry a black one. It's been the perfect purse and I haven't had what I consider "perfect" in a long time . . . so this is the only one I use for now - I don't care if it doesn't match (but they say black goes with everything anyway ).

It no longer matters to me much, but in general I try to match up somewhat. When I was working in salon..oh yes top of the line matching everything even down to phone, shoes, everything matched.

Being in a fashion country, an hour close to a fashion city, we're obsessed with matching up over here! It's something we're taught since childhood. Small handbags are for the evening or formal events, where you usually wear a dress. Large handbags are perfect for a casual everyday look. I prefer the large ones because I have more space.

@Kandae11 Yes, the handbags with many compartments tend to be large and those are the ones I use the most. We carry too much stuff.

Yes indeed -- Rome, Milan , Paris , London - some of the world's top fashion cities. I like handbags with many compartments, enough to hold my make-up, cellphone, keys, wallet, tissues, small notebook, novel etc.

I prefer things that match. When I worked I had to look professional. But even now I like things that match, although I go for a more relaxed look than I did when I worked. I used to like a medium sized bag but I find that in my old age I prefer a smaller one. I hate digging around looking for something in the bottom of my handbag.

@Kandae11 That's a good option too. I love a bag with lots of pockets. Or, if I'm using a smaller bag and I want to change to another, bigger one with few or no pockets, I just put the smaller bag inside the bigger one. That way I don't have to take everything out of one and put it in the other. Easy. And if I have anything extra to put in there it can easily be found even if it does go to the bottom of the bigger bag because there's nothing else at the bottom.

I like to match, I am even pretty maniac about this, in this photo, as an example, the girl mixes gold jewelries with a white metal wrist watch, it's disturbing.

@Kandae11 I would have chosen silver color jewelry, to go with the watch and the handbag. I do not care for real gold and silver, but they must match.
@Kandae11 (53679)

Some do it, but I would never dream of mixing gold - with silver for example.

@LadyDuck She is also wearing bracelet which seems similar to the jewelery around her neck. and from what I can see - the watch matches the bag.

You know I always switched handbags big and small when I worked ages ago in NYC but since I came to Latvia I have only used a handbag a handful of times and no longer use one. After all I work at home and when I go out I have a sling type of bag I just put my wallet in.

As long as my handbag could fit a paperback, I am content . When the kids were tiny and need diapers + foods, then my handbag must be big enough to have a few diapers, cleaners, extra clothes etc...

@Kandae11 by the time I reach 80, I wonder what sort of handbag size I would go for (can't really read very well by then, so no paperback required! ).

I no longer worry about that. I know some people who buy a line of designer bags with zip out interiors, so they just change the inside of their purse to a new one to coordinate. I carry or wear a back pack at this time as it frees up my hands for my students, and it holds a lot. I work in a school so it is fine.
