Raining and more in the Carolinas

Although we are experiencing rain and thunder storms in the Carolinas, some areas of the United States will never have storms such as those that happened in Texas this month. If you have ever lived in Texas or the Carolinas, you have probably had your share of flooding. We won't have flooding in our area (or so we hope) this time around. Those in North or South Carolina who are closer to the ocean might have another story to tell before the week is over. Our friends in the Philippines often have terrible floods that destroy entire neighborhoods. It would be easy for us to consider that people should just move, but where would they go? Do you experience flooding on a regular basis where you live?

No flooding here at all Pat, at least not in my direct area..though there were some floods here a few years back up north. And the people of Mumbai in India right now are flooded out. When I lived by the sea, there were some floods then.

It is so odd how some areas are terribly dry while others are flooded. It seems to me humans often live in locations where they shouldn't be @Hatley

We in California just don't get that kind of weather--but that will change with climate change--I live in a coastal town and I looked recently at a map of the forcasted flooding that will likely occur here in the next 50 years--stay safe--I hear Irma is packing a punch!

Yes, Irma is really threatening many areas @divalounger and it would not be fun to be in any of those places when she hits!

Mostly every year the Connecticut River floods in the spring. We personally live high up so we don't flood but many streets do.

No flooding at Our apartment complex. We live on a hillside. We have a creek behind us that overflows during heavy rains. But doesn't get near the apartments. My sister was flooded once and lost her home

Some areas have been devastated. Glad that you're safe. I live on an island that is in the middle of a huge river and at times the river floods and some homes have a real problem.

@PatZAnthony Yes, we have had some floods but compared to other places we are very fortunate. I live on the 4th floor so if my place gets flooded then we are in real trouble.

Thankfully, here in our area of NC we don't experience it often. When Matthew hit last year several places in our area flooded. It was not picnic for folks.

We see flooding in many areas in NC, but it is because the areas were not built to handle the humans. If people had not built homes where the town/city did not have proper drainage, the flooded areas wouldn't be an issue.

No...not at all...Flooding of the kind you all have...is not there..where you all need to relocate people...and stock food for days at a stretch...and rescuing in boats..it was shocking and sad that your country happily considers outsiders to be helpless...I would rather that money for wall be used to install pumps and build canals that would take water to arid parts of your country. But then, I am not Donald Trump and he gets to call the shots.

Those issues of flooding have been happening for decades, yet people continue to build in these places! It is really strange. Everything is destroyed, rebuilt, and in a few years it all happens again @vandana7

Thankfully we don't experience much flooding where I am, but, our lower lying areas do and the people don't have anywhere else to go. Nature can be so scary.

Oregon has a lot of rivers and streams, so some low areas do experience flooding. I lived in San Antonio growing up with no floods there, but that was far from the coast.

No flooding here in CT where we are further inland and at a slightly higher elevation. My son is on the shoreline and gets flooding from big hurricanes on his street. All homes except his and his neighbors flood. Thank goodness his house was set up a bit higher.

We don't experience flooding although the little river that goes through the neighbourhood a short distance from us sometimes gets swollen and threatens a certain amount of destruction. It must be terrifying facing these floods.

Watching a wall of water heading toward your family home or car is never fun @JudyEv and we would not want anyone to experience it.

The only real flooding we ever got here was back in 2006, hopefully that won't happen again anytime soon Usually when they say Texas got floods it means those areas south and southeast of Dallas. The northwest, southwest and far west Texas are rarely affected like Houston is known to be.
