Do Attractive People Have Advantages Compared to Others?

It seems like nowadays, physical beauty is given much more emphasis compared to before. What's more stupid I believe, is that attractive people are usually stereotyped as nice and good-hearted people, which sometimes is the opposite. I think they get away with things, people deemed as unattractive or ordinary, never do. What's worse is even in the workplace sometimes, there is a tendency in which beauty overtakes skills and competency. What are your thoughts on this?

I think it depends on the type of work they're in. A lot of employers would prefer someone attractive if the job is front desk or a flight attendant. Skills can't be be covered up. Especially with work that has a lot of information. Sooner or later, even if someone is favored for their looks but isn't able to deliver the work will get booted out.

It is like...if they had a choice between A+ looks + B skills set, and B looks and A+ skill set, then A+ looks + B skills set would win hands down. If, on the other hand, they had A+ looks + C skills set, and C looks and A+ skill set, the second category, i.e., C looks plus A+ skills set would win.

@vandana7 That's quite unfair. It's a good thing I personally do the recruitment for my team and always look at attitude and skills. If the person has the looks, it's just a plus.

@rosedust82 .. It has an intangible plus. If the person is quite attractive, then clients tend to talk to them, are impressed by them, even if that person is not offering much. This means as far as the business goes, it is a win win situation. But as I said, it is relative. Skill set takes second seat when the difference is not so great that it can be made up in other ways.

It is true and happening. People with attractive physical appearance always get away with everything and even treated better even if they do not deserve it. It is so unfortunate that people with average looks are always underestimated.

Yes, we should really stop doing that. I guess that kind of thinking starts to embed in our minds the first time we watch our very first cartoon shows. Heroes are 90% of the time the one having the good looks, while villains are those who care considered ugly and horrendous.

@JeeyanDee You have made a nice observation. I hadn't thought of that before but it is true.

Sure. I've been in work places where a young and attractive airhead got a good place and extra attention.

Yes, lower quality work is acceptable if you're considered cute. Look at people like Britney Spears.

Yeah that is true, beauty industry deals with physical characteristics more than what real beauty is all about.
