Dear Judy said I should list what I do eat. So here goes and know that this is not complete and once in a blue moon I veer away..... I eat carbs. Whole food carbs: brown rice, barley, oats, whole grain tortillas and pasta. I eat tofu and canned beans like garbanzos and black beans. Non canned beans like lentils and black eyed peas. On my list is color. I like a colorful plate so in goes the rainbow: onions and garlic and green peppers and broccoli and cauliflower and the lowly potato and yams and love me butternut squash color. So garishly orange! Bagged spinach and not too often, kale and green beans and peas. Fruits: love that fruit. Especially when its in season. Grapes and raspberries and bananas and apples. Home cherry tomatoes are fruit. Other times of the year tomatoes come to me in cans and jars like tomato sauce and pasta sauce. Sauerkraut for condiment and mustard. Not eating catsup cause its sweet and sweet means I will attack it with a kiddo will. I eat bread. Bread that I have made so that I know what is in it: home ground wheat flour and store white flour, sometimes sesame seeds, sometimes raw oats, flax seed. And peanut butter. I'd be a goner without our home peanut butter. These are the outer layers of what I eat. These are what I make my meals from. (Forgot the carrots that must go into the lentil stew and of course the onion.) I do love my food. I've managed to shed over forty pounds this past year but oh don't you distract me when its time for me to eat! I hope this answered your question, dear Judy. Can't forget avocados. They help out in many ways, including pudding time. (I also am known to indulge in unsweetened baking cocoa blended up with dates.) Pudding time! Must have that every so often or go battier than usual.

@bunnybon7 It took me forever to get on the kale wagon and I'm still barely there. I do cook it up in spicey stews so that its there to give me minerals but I can't taste it.

@Happy2BeMe Its weird. My hubby loves spinach and can't stand kale. He even likes canned spinach. That stuff is just a pile of goop when it comes out of the can. I don't know how he can like that and not kale.

@hereandthere Good for you! I walk into my grocery store and right there by the carts is a huge display of chips. I dislike having to go around that so that I can get to the produce section.

@marguicha I don't know what your stores are like but in my corner there are huge stacks of fake food like chips. The store wants me to notice them and buy more! and more! Of course the store won't pay my doctor bills when I get sick from that stuff.

@FayeHazel Carbs get a bad rap. I eat tons of whole grain carbs every day. Not the processed white carbs. Carbs are actually the fuel our bodies need to keep the lights on- like our hearts beating. I eat low fat or try to though I cheat with olive oil and eggs and avocados.

That is quite a list of good food. I am eating more fresh vegetables and fruits. I don't need to lose weight just eat better. You sure know what you are doing.

@velvet53 Thanks. I've been studying on nutrition for years but finally last year my husband decided he'd better really start improving his health pronto and I decided to go cold turkey on sugar. The combo led to a lot of talking and thinking and changing of what we ingested. The emotional stability of two people on the same path can not be down played. Essential to winning the race!

@jstory Thanks Judy for suggesting I write this. When I visited Oregon I noticed a lot of healthy stores like Trader Joes. That store is one huge plus for thinking about us moving there.
