Time is running out and my nerves are getting the best of me

Even though the hurricane is not suppose to get here till the weekend, my nerves are shot and I am starting to gather some things that I want in case the house is ruined totally. I am getting a few pictures of my family even though I have boxes of them, I am only taking a few of each of my kids and grandkids and my parents. Today we got most of the loose things in the yard, I will make a last minute walk around tomorrow and convince my husband it is time to go. The water in my area has not started to come up yet but I think it is time to go. My next door neighbors are not evacuating so I can call them to get updates. We are still staying in Florida but are going to the gulf side as the houses there are brick and cement. A lot sturdier than the ones on the east side where I am. This probably will be my last post but I can still get MyLot on my cell phone so I will keep everyone up to date. If anyone else here is near this hurricane, stay safe and remember to think of yourself and your family and not the material things.

Please stay safe, the one thing I don't understand is people staying when evacuation is called. I would be gone. But then I have never lived near an ocean and plan to keep it that way.

As Governor Scott said, we can replace your house, but we can't replace you! I feel better knowing you are doing the right thing and heading to the west coast. Be safe on the roads out there, it is a madhouse as millions of people evacuate.

@ramapo17 Yes, but I suppose they have to do that to be on the safe side. Take care!

@JamesHxstatic Thank you. When I look at my house and want to bring some special things with me in case everything is gone, it is very hard to pick what to bring. I have 75 years of memories here. I would need a tractor trailer to carry all my stuff.

Please stay safe. You are right. WE shouldn't care much about the material things. Life is more important as we won't ever get that back once we lost it.

When we decided to move south FL was not on the potential list. I could not deal with hurricanes. Good luck, hope it misses you totally

I think you're making a wise decision to leave as hard as it is. My nerves would be frazzled too but it's better to be safe. praying for you and that you come back to everything you are leaving behind

When I lived in the city, I always leave my home (which does not have a slab roof) and stay at the home of friends with safer roofs. However, I am now living in the country area where our roofing is not the kind I would feel safe with - and no one I know in the area has the slab type roofs. So, I am keeping fingers crossed.
