I enjoy the zoo in Emporia, Ks. not just for the unusual and native animals, but also for the beautiful flowers and plants they display. The colors are breathtaking. Wild birds enjoy the plants and flowers as well. Even the little birds and the turtles know that they are safe when they visit. They find extra food. Butterflies feast on the nectar of colorful flowers. It is a peaceful place to visit. There are lots of water features and sounds of little rivulets running over rocks. Some people dislike zoos, but the best zoos have enrichment for the animals and help save endangered animals while educating the public on how to be better citizens of nature. I have a pair of trumpeter swans in my image. At one point there were only 68 left in the wild. Now there are 2200 thanks to the conservation efforts of zoos and the public. They mate for life, so I am showing you this pair. The black swan did not have a mate. I wonder what has happened in his case. We did not visit the entire zoo, we did not go to the larger animals, but we can go back again soon. It is free. There are displays that talk about how to reduce pollution and damage, and of course some that will let you put in money for wildlife preservation. It was very cute to hear a little kid ask his parent when passing this display "Mom, can we save the animals?" I saw more grandparents with their grand kids than parents with children. It is sad in a way. Maybe mom and dad have to work too hard, but just maybe grandparents were looking for a chance to get out with the grand kids for the day. I have done that in the past.

Tomorrow is grandparents day, so that may have played a part in the kids being with grandparents not parents. Also, there are old parents not just midaged and young.. so that could be it too.. plus parents do work and need sitters on weekends. Many reasons for it. Great picture. Hope you go back soon

I heard many kids refer to their adult as "grandma" or "grandpa", so that is how I came to the conclusion. We had fun interacting with the kids we met too. Hubby liked to find things and point them out. Kids that have extra adults in their lives are lucky.

We took our grands to the zoo when we stayed with them while their parents took a trip.

I love the picture. ..they are so beautiful. I haven't been to a zoo in years, the last one was the Sacramento Zoo. I really loved the one down in San Diego, especially the huge aviary! We went to the San Francisco zoo many times. I always loved to go there. Thank you for sharing!

I have been fortunate to go to many zoos. Like people, each zoo seems to have a personality of its own.

I have always loved zoos. The animals are very friendly and its relaxing and satisfying to watch some of them. Animals are beautiful creatures and I love every moment I get to see them and feed them or pet them.
