So today was Grandparent's Day in the US

I've been a grandparent for just a few years. But I didn't even remember grandparent's day until I saw it mentioned on Facebook two days ago.
My own grandparents have been gone for many years. I don't think we even had a "grandparents day" when they were alive.
My kids never made a big deal about it for their grandmother either.
It must be one of the lesser known special days. In fact, some people say it's just another thing that greeting card companies invented to make more money.
I'm not cynical about it like that though. It's a positive event in my opinion.
It was my tradition growing up to honor parents and grandparents too on Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Besides, people have many different family circumstances. Not everyone has a good relationship with parents or grandparents or they might have passed.
It's a good thing to appreciate relatives who are special to us, anytime. I don't know that we really need an official date on a calendar to do so.
These are a few of thoughts I had today about this. What do you think?

It seems kind of unnecessary. Although our granddaughter sent us both a "happy grandparents day" text.

It's a positive thing. Grandparents are important. I'm glad your granddaughter acknowledged you.

Its been around for many years. Actually, since 1978. Even has its own song and flower.

You are right. :) We need to appreciate the people in our lives as much as we can and every day too.

I'm not even sure we have grandparents day over here. Never heard of it before. Mine are either deceased or I don't know them that well. I've just starting seeing Grandma again for the 1st time in over a decade.
