9/11/01 has changed the world at large. Where were you on the day the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York fell? It was a beautiful early autumn day, and that day, my parents and I were planning to make the 4 hour drive to Southern MN - to stay at some family friend's farm for a few days. My dad was the first person up, and, as was his habit he turned on the radio. He was the first to learn of the news. Hearing it on the radio , he turned the news on tv and actually watched the live footage of the 2nd plane hitting the 2nd tower. "There's been an attack in New York" he said, or something like that..... I was up - but just going about my morning routine of brushing teeth, getting dressed, etc. My mom and I joined my dad and watched on tv. I was 19 - and had recently gotten my first car. I wanted the experience of driving more - so I drove down to the family friends, but the mood was somber as we drove - listening to the radio on the way. My night fall - there were reports of gas being as high as $6 x gallon -- it was previously around 0.99 cents a gallon. People were panicing. We went to a gas station in a near by small town. It was crazy. Lines were so, so long. The gas there was around $2.00 x gallon. People were filling their autos - their gas cans, and even non-safe containers like buckets and milk jugs. It was surreal. YouTube Patriot Day Tribute :

I was a junior in high school and my history teacher told us what happened. Kids in my class broke down because they had family that worked in the towers. =( We lived an hour and a half away... Really sad day.

@FayeHazel It did, I will never forget that day. The kids were escorted out of class, all in tears...It was horrible. We had exchange students from NYC in our school and a couple had parents they lost.

I was working on a book that morning and didn't have the TV on. I found out about it when I went to work. It was very surreal. I had a hard time believing what happened, but the images were real. I know I was stuck like glue to the TV after that for quite a while.

I was at work. Someone from another office came in and said a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. She came back about 10 minutes later and said there was another plane crash. I worked in a pediatric multidisciplinary office at the time, and there were a lot of kids who had "issues" of various types. The thing that sticks out most vividly in my mind is one of the psychologists standing guard at the door of the break room, where we had a TV, making certain no child came in to see the coverage so they wouldn't suffer the trauma that all of us adults were going through.

It was very thoughtful of that psychologist to stand guard so to say.... I remember being confused at first too, two planes? Why? Was my feeling...

On that day we were staying in a hotel celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We put the TV on early and couldn't work out what was going on for a while. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from the TV and the dreadful scenes.

I was hungover, and they were talking about it on sports talk radio. I had to turn on CNN to see what was going on.

I was at work and it came across the news. We rushed across the street to a shop that had a TV. Everybody was standing around stating at the TV in disbelief as the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. There was a complete eerie silence. I will never forget that moment.
