Bad weather is not bed weather

... at least for me. See, whenever there are heavy rains, I get scared because it might bring floods that would inundate our house. The house which I grew up in is located in an area that's prone to floods. We've experienced getting floodwaters up to our knees, sometimes we had to evacuate the house (which is a bungalow) because the waters get too high. There was one time when the whole house submerged in floodwaters, we lost almost everything and had to rebuild not just our house but our lives as well. So every time it rains, it brings me back to those bad memories. And while everyone else seems to enjoy this "bed weather," my folks and I are always keeping ourselves updated and prepare for the worst. Anyways, hope everyone's safe and dry today.

So sorry you experienced flooding. I have experienced the same during Typhoon Ondoy. I still cringe and fell a tinge of sadness every time I recall that event.

Yeah, the flood from Ondoy was the one that totally submerged our house. That's why every time it rains hard, I can't help but remember that event.

Did you ever think of moving instead of rebuilding. Or when you rebuilt did you consider building a 2-storey instead? I had the same experience many years ago and we lost a lot of expensive things in the flood. Right after we bought a house in a place where there's no flood at all. We've been here for 7 years now.

We've thought about that, but it was pretty much a consensus that it was a "no." Hehe! Too many memories, plus the location is very accessible to everything. But hubby and I are considering, of course we want our own place for our family.

@moonchild117 Filipinos are really sentimental. But I had to let go of that if I want a better place to live.

Oh I have flood story too. When I was a child, my father used to make 'boats' out of thick banana trunks/stems/stalks. He would put us on the make-shift boat and send us to school while he's completely submerged in floodwaters, guiding us to higher grounds.

Wow, that's admirable of your father. I hope the place you live now doesn't easily flood when it rains.

I often stay awake in thunderstorms because as a child I lived in tornado country.

It must have been scary for you as a kid, when tornadoes happen.
