The Heat is On

Over Labor Day weekend, 121 agencies took part in Colorado's annual DUI crackdown, known as The Heat is On. Statewide, 1,184 people were caught drinking and driving. Locally, police in Colorado Springs arrested 106 drivers, the highest number of all agencies. I don't know about you, but that is a lot of DUI's out there on the roads. The cops will hold their next crackdown during the fall, which will last five weeks. In Colorado, three DUI's will result in time in the pen. The article below does not elaborate on how many three time offenders were arrested. Not to mention, it makes me wonder just how many drunk drivers weren't caught. Scary!
Nearly 1,200 people were cited during the latest <i

And it still seems like every second driver has a phone glued to their ear.

I've heard it said that one has to drive drunk about 150 times before being caught. It was some years ago when I heard that statistic and I don't know if it was legitimate or not.

It always makes me wonder just how many weren't caught because I'm sure the cops can't possibly get to all of them. Even this weekend we went to the county fair and there were loads of people who were drinking there . . . for their sake I hope they and everyone on the road with them made it safely home!!

@teamfreak16 I think of my next door neighbor's friend who was drunk off her azz at their party one night. She actually escaped the party without anyone knowing to drive home - and she lived a good 12 miles away taking the freeway. Everyone was freaking out as no one could get a hold of her - but she did eventually make it home. She is darn lucky she didn't get herself or anyone else killed . . . I am not kidding she was plastered out of her mind.

I know. If they caught that many, you can just wonder how many more were out there.

@teamfreak16 They don't care about the risks they're risking on others! The drunk drivers are never the ones to be harmed in an event of an accident !!

There are people that are going to drive drunk no matter what the penalties.

@teamfreak16 That is too bad that people have not learned to not drive while under the influence. They can not only hurt themselves but others as well.

It's really never going to change, honestly. Anymore, if I go to a bar, I go somewhere that I can walk home from so that I don't drive.

That is scary that there are so many people on the roads who are drinking and driving. Those are only the ones that got caught. There would be more who didn't.

My sister used to be a drunk till she did 2 1/2 years in prison. Now she don`t drive but since its been 12 years ago she wants to drive again but she stopped drinking in 2014. I gave her my dads old car but it need a battery and maybe a fan belt, it still sits in my yard.

You'd think they would continue with increased patrols if they were catching that many people.

They should do it full time, as far as I'm concerned.
