It was green, and it was in my refrigerator

It was leftover broccoli. We had it Thursday night. It was only seasoned with a little butter and salt. I froze it fresh this summer. Tonight it became soup. I had a powdered cheese sauce on hand, so I made the sauce, just water and the powder. I added the broccoli and some black pepper. To prevent blandness I put a few dashes of Tabasco. Finally I stirred in some bacon bits. Hubby and I had a delicious Sunday evening meal, and I have packed some for lunches next week. Not too bad for something that was green and in my refrigerator.

haha I thought it was going to be some monster in your fridge Heather with that title. But glad it turned out to be a delicious, hearty meal for you.

Yes, I had intended people to imagine lively growing science experiments in there.

That reminded me of the broccoli I have in my fridge. Have to cook it up soon. Maybe as a side with burgers on the grill.

@GardenGerty I have been looking for a good spaghetti squash. Not sure Little Miss will enjoy it as much as we do though. I'll have to make her whole wheat spaghetti.

@ElusiveButterfly I learned to cook it at Head Start Preschool. Those kids loved it and could not get enough of it. Give her a try or two.

I am so ready for it to be soup weather. It allows for inexpensive, hearty meals and they are simple and healthy.

@GardenGerty I've been fixing soup all summer. My son has taken a liking to it and the summer has been fairly cool.

Great idea! I have a bit of broccoli on hand that I should use up; I could make broccoli cheese soup too.

Broccoli, or cauliflower, or even potatoes are good this way. Enjoy yours.

@GardenGerty I have a good broccoli cheese soup recipe from a cookbook my mom used when I was growing up. It's called The Thrift Cook and was put out by Farm Journal. Her hamburger soup recipe comes from there too.

Broccoli are one of the very few things we never eat, we both do not like the taste.

@GardenGerty There are only a few things that only one of the two like, I avoid to make them, cooking two different meals is not interesting.

This sounds delicious. I was thinking you were talking about one of those surprises that get stuck in the back of a refrigerator and when you open it up it is all molded and gressn. However, this one was a good green.

Wow!I now can get creative with broccoli.I only steam them and eat as an accompaniment for the starch and protein am eating.I once tried broccoli juice and felt as if the world was coming to an end.I swore to myself even if that was the only way to loose weight then I'd rather be overweight. But I will definitely try this method you've posted.Thanks.

I eat it raw in salads and also cook it in stir fry. It is a healthy food, but not always my favorite. My mom used to serve it with thin slices of lemon when she first started cooking it. I like it with slices of orange for a change.
