Dowry problems faced by women

When a woman is married to a person,parents believe that they have given their daughter to safe hands.But in some cases the in-laws of parents become so greedy for dowry.
They compare it with others,and torture their daughter -in -law very much.Many dowry deaths have taken place.This is really a shameful thing.
What should be done to stop this ?

I wont accept any dowry, i dont want that girl father to buy myself with money, i am something not available with money

@rubyriaz007 you seems like a Malayali am i right? Otherwise you wont ask question like this, because kerala is the only state in india which question dowry

Educate them, the society. Taking dowry should be stopped.

well according to chinese custom, dowry is agreed before marriage, after the parents of the girl side had taken, no more arguments. The case is settle. Maybe India culture is different

i think kids be it boy or girl should be sensitised about this issue since childhood on how dowry is bad and is crime as per indian constitution
this would not only empower our kids in knowing the ill effects of such dowry on family
but also help them fight against this cruel practice if they see such thing happening around them and also in family .
....also teach our girls to be brave and not not be scared of such in laws 
and know her rights as a woman and wife given to her by our constitution irrespective of which religion she belongs to
