Why do we feel that something might not be fair?

Someone loses a job and has a lot of bills to pay and may think that it is not fair that he lost his job. A person wanted to get a promotion but someone else got it and feels that it is not fair. Someone may be born into a poor family and think that it is not fair when they look at what others have. But someone else may be born into a rich family and that might not be fair either? Have you ever said that some situation or event was not fair? But who decides what is fair and what is not? Why do we feel that something might not be fair?

When things don't work out the way we expect or hope we might call it unfair - but some times it happens for the best.

That's what I was thinking also. I remember reading a few times where people missed a plane or a bus. They might have been upset and when later they read that something happened to the plane or the bus then they were so thankful. It's really hard to say if something is really unfair.

@1hopefulman there was a guy on the news like that. He missed the flight that crashed. He was beyond thankful

@db20747 Yes, and then there might be the person who was happy to catch the plane and then it might crash. This is where God comes in. Whatever happens or doesn't happen in this world, He has a whole new world in store for us where one day only fair things will happen to us.

I do not use that term precisely because life is life and it is what it is.

Right! And things happen or don't happen and do we really know how things will turn out tomorrow about something we thought was unfair?

@1hopefulman Yes and we must suffer it and get on with it or not.

Personally I think there is many times we all have. I know from time to time I have thought that, especially with all my Health issues. But then I take time to look at others, and their situations they are going thru, and many times am Thankful and know I am Blessed.

That is a very mature way to view life. So, do you think that we should be thankful for what we have and where we are in life no matter what our situation?

Many things are not fair, but it helps to understand it, when we get the explanation from the Bible..1John 5:19 "We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one." - and it also helps a lot to think of this scripture: "To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." And we can also get strength from God, if we pray for it.

@1hopefulman Anyone who is suffering from selfishness, like war and other things like that. Also lack of food, when those governing the world are using money to weapons, that only destroy.

We should, no we could, we would fair better if we were grateful for where we are. I know that but rotten things happen and we do feel life is unfair. It may be misplaced because we feel so badly. Still, when I found out that all the money except 10% of it exists is in the hands of these number may be inaccurate 1% of the population it does seem a tad fair not?

Yes, being grateful for who we are and what we have is a real help to deal with an unfair world.

@Bluedoll Great! This world was never designed to be fair as it is a result of rebellion against justice and love. Therefore when we actually get fairness, it is miracle. If this world designed by wicked forces ever becomes fair then it wold mean that God is wrong and Satan is right. That is the real point in a nutshell.

I suppose we decide what is fair or not fair. Our perception of a situation we are in leads to saying something is fair or not fair. Yes, I have sometimes said that something is not fair, but it does not change anything and it is best to just go on with daily life as best as is possible.

Do you think we are always fair when we declare something unfair? Example: Someone gets the promotion we were hoping to get. Is that really unfair? Maybe the other person is more qualified or worked harder than we did?

@bluesa I guess we might feel disappointed for a while but there are other goals that we can pursue and we might discover some other talent that we might have.

@1hopefulman , no, when we're disappointed, we're rarely fair. Yes, that other person might have worked harder or was more qualified, but when a person was hoping for a positive change and it doesn't happen, well it seems unfair no matter what.

In the cases you mentioned I wouldn't be able to say if it is fair or not without knowing all the details. However, I think i am a good judge of fairness and I am usually passionate about the subject. If someone is born rich that is their good fortune so there is nothing unfair about that. However, if because one is rich they get a slap on the wrist for a crime and a poor person gets jail time for the same crime then that is unfair or rather, unjust.

@1hopefulman True. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't do what we can while on this earth to stop it or draw attention to it where we can

The one who is in power, has the right to decide what is fair. Say, a police in a bad mood, stopped a car and said, 'here is the fine, you did such and such a thing!' To the police, that is fair, to the person who had to pay the fine when he didn't do anything wrong, is unfair.

Well, if what the police did was really unfair, the person can contest the ticket. So, there are things we can do when something is really unfair.

@1hopefulman A very small chance to win since the police is the police! Too tiny the chance that one should just pay the whatever and move on.

I used to feel like that before until I learned that our lives is different and each of us has a purpose in life. I felt that It is not FAIR to wish to have a life like somebody else's when I have mine to live and enjoy.
