I am giving my husband a wallet for his birthday (shhh it is a surprise). Someone told me years ago that it is bad luck to give a wallet or purse unless you put some money in it. Have you heard this before or are people just trying it on??

I have got three wallets as gift at different occasion, all without any money in it. And see my luck, I have no money to fill them till now. Perhaps, you should put some money before you give it to your husband. It will attract money, I hope. In our culture it is a sign of politeness to keep even 1 rupee when you give a wallet.

That's what I heard from the old folks. We need to put some money in wallets. It gives luck to a receiver.

I have heard if it.But I do not know how this belief originated. So people instead of giving empty purses will put at least a coin in It.

I have received a few wallets as gifts in my life, sometimes with no money and sometimes with money. No difference in the results.

I've heard of this superstition recently. It makes sense, but I didn't know before and I was gifted an empty wallet. Oh well, I didn't care and still don't. Here it's also a bad thing to gift perfumes, I have no clue why, but doing so is told to break friendships or romantic relationships.

My grandmother always believed that it was superstitious to give someone a wallet or purse without putting money in it. Back in the old days even pennies counted
