Would you want to live in the Floating City?

Philippines
September 20, 2017 9:24pm CST
The news about Earthquakes had been more recent these days. With the latest coming from Mexico now, reminds me of a the post I made six years ago about floating cities. I was thinking of this because it's the only way for us to be safe from Earthquakes and Floods. But I admit it takes a great deal of technology and resources to even built one. I hope a group of scientist and companies would have time to make some of these. A floating city in space like Elysium would sound fine too, but we are at risk of space rocks or ultra-violate rays from the Sun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD3GMwg4qZo

I always dreamed and fantasized about those space colonies. Speaking of floating cities. Nasa wanted to colonize venus with Acid proof balloon cities.

You know while search for a sample, that's exactly what I saw. But why can't they make one here first as a trial? why go to venus first @CaptAlbertWhisker

@Letranknight2015 Venus have gases that can make balloons float forever. If you want to avoid natural disasters and also conflicts from that religion that believes on flat earth and marrying little girls..... Move to Finland. Finland is not on the ring of fire so they are now building underground cities because they don't have earthquake and volcanic threats. They also dont have tropical depressions. They also have the best education on earth.

How that could be possible LK? Floating means it's situated on the sufrface of the water and so, the possibilities of tsunami is still a danger when another earthquake occures near the floating city.

Hello @neildc well, I have research on that and thought of the tsunami, so the one I'm thinking that's better is the one situating in the sky or in space.

I am glad that I am a bit on a senior side, and will leave this world eventually. Thinking of a float city frightens me greatly.

I have dinned on a floating restaurant and we sat on swinging seats it was a good experience but the people i had gone with were not too comfortable because they were afraid of the possibility of being thrown into the waters. Nwai a floating city sounds fun

It seems like any more there's no way to avoid disaster. Any which way you go, there's always something that could happen. If not a natural disaster, there's still war.

I had the blessing of visiting the Marsh Arabs in Iraq before Sadam Hussein indulged in some cruel ethnic cleansing. They lived in amazing reed huts on the river and you had to reach them by canoe. It seemed a very tranquil way of life with water buffalo in the river. Having been in a kind of floating city it seems a great idea. I suppose the canal boats near here would not be that safe, but we are not in a place that has earthquakes.

Hello @Jackalyn Well, you never know. As long as we are on the ground, there's always risk of earth quakes. I guess it's a bad idea because people can't raise fish or get fish.

Now that you mentioned earthquake, we just had a little shake earlier. It scared me! To live in a floating city? As long as I will not soar & dive everytime there is an earthquake, yes!

Hello @KnehKnah well, I was preferring more if the city was in the sky or in space rather having it on the water, which the tsunami could turn them upside down.

@Letranknight2015 Opo. But, if I will eventually live in the skies, how will I go there? I'm afraid to fly! :)

There have been a few earthquakes lately along with the other natural disasters. I don't think floating cities is practical. It does make for good science fiction.

I guess you're right @just4him they maybe considered if it's really necessary and we are at the point of no return.

Don't laugh. Nikola Tesla basically discovered Zero Point Energy and anti Gravity as well. Building cities that float should not be too difficult a task these days. Yes, they might need more time, but that would be a great advancement in this world.
