The bees are still frisky here

The last day of summer, really? It'll be at least 94 today then tomorrow it'll dip down to about 92 IF the weather guy got it right. The bees actually like this time of year better than summer cuz everything is blooming. I took the photo above years ago with a Nikon Coolpix camera while I was in mom's back yard. She would spend hundreds of dollars on her water bill so that she could have a really green and colorful back yard. Do you rely on the rain to water your backyard?

Could be it's their last ditch effort to get enough food for winter.

It is very hot here also. One particular bee was following me this morning and I wasn't too pleased.

Her backyard must have been beautiful. I really like the color of the flowers. We water ours when it is too hot and we have not had enough rain but we also mulch to help hold the water.

It really was and boy did she pay a hefty water bill. Her yard was sandy soil so water went right through it and she'd constantly water and never obeyed the restriction rules the water company would issue during droughts. I freaked when she got up in her late 80s and had forgotten to pay a water bill, it cost me almost $200.

I remember you mentioned your mom's water bill for her lovely garden! You know what's weird, at one point we saw a lot of bees, now they're not around - maybe it got too chilly for them? We don't get that much rain, but we had some good rain from last winter . . . I've been putting off having any sort of garden because rain is not consistent (yet).

Yeah, same here. If it's an El Nino year we'll get rain pretty much through most of July but that doesn't happen that often. All my black eyed susans are growing like wild and boy do those bees love it. Do you suppose that fire ya'll had kept the bees from buzzing round?

@rebelann We thought we were going to get rain a couple days ago, but that didn't happen. I love that the bees are playing on your black eyed susans . . . are those easy to grow? I don't know about the fire . . . we drove through the freeways in that area last weekend . . . it was like being on another planet - everything burnt to a crisp. But I don't think it was close enough to us regarding the disappearance of bees . . . or maybe bees do know better and know to get the heck outta here when there's bad air quality!

I didn't put the seeds in for the Susans, they were probably a gift from the birds @much2say maybe I'll get some bags of seeds and just spread them around the lot. I just wonder what would grow.

The wasps are still having a good time @rebelann . My front and back yard are so huge that you can bet I let the rain handle things.

Wasps I don't like, they are unpredictable. Hey, at least you get rain I have to wait for an El Nino year.

So true @nanette64 I just hope we don't get another 7 year drought, those are so typical after a wet year.

I'm not positive but it might be called Sweet Pea. Mom gave it special care and planted it in a shadier area then watered it a lot. I tried to grow it but that didn't work.

High heat will do that @YrNemo at least the black eyed susans don't mind.

@rebelann The leaves look like grape ones... I tried to plant some pea flowers here, nothing happened. (Too blistering hot on certain days when I turned my back! )

Like your om I do the same and yes the bees and butterflies are still quite busy in my yard. It is nice when it rains but I don't wait for it. I water almost daily and I also have some rain barrels foe smaller tasks.

I gave up the idea of a rain barrel when mom's never had water in it .... it usually doesn't rain very much here.

Yeah, I do water the china berry trees, peppermint and virginia creeper I have but that's it, the rest of the plants and trees here are drought hardy.
