Important thoughts after all these disasters lately

If anyone is doing some cleaning out of closets and drawers, don't throw things out.. With all the things going on in the world these days, donate, donate, donate.
People in so many countries have lost absolutely everything and will appreciate anything that is available.
Every country and town has places to give any unwanted or needed clothing, blankets and almost anything you can think of. Don't throw anything out because you don't think it is perfect. People that are cold and have nothing do not care about holes.

The sad thing is that the “major” charities don’t want goods, they want money. You need to find charities that DO want the tangible things to give, and that isn’t always easy.

Now a days the red cross takes clothes as well as money. The Salvation Army takes almost anything and so does Habitat for Humanity. I have given all of them things. I gave them clothes and furniture and any house hold items I don't want any more. It is time for me to clean out again. If I haven't used something in a year I know I will not need it any more.

Me to. I use to do volunteer work in needy church and some of the people that came in and had nothing broke my heart. I wanted to go home and clean out my house.

Good thoughts Nancy. Someone can always use what another person does not want.

Totally agree. I hardly ever throw out clothes. Only do when they have rips or stains.

I think now even with stains and tears are better than nothing.

@Courtlynn I know what you mean and I feel the same way but I would rather have shoes or socks with holes than not to have anything on my feet.

@Behindtheguitarbar There must be some places that collect things. Go online and look for churches or children's orphanages.
You can always check with local schools.

Well said.
We all have more than we ever need. Come to think of it, we can more than care and share.
Natural disasters test our resolve to treat others like we want to be treated.
Not a cent can we take away, so let us help others in need with those we will not require for now - siva

You are absolutely right, I just put two bags of clothes in the donation box, hopefully others will help out too.

That's a good reminder. We have refugees that are used to having very little and they will appreciate second-hand stuff. Beggars can't be choosers!

You definitely hit the nail on the head. People need to think of others and anything will help those in need right now. I have donated a lot lately and am going back through stuff. I don't have that much but if someone can use it I want them to have it.

That is so true. When I'm cleaning out my closet I set aside the things that I don't need and donate them. I never go on a garage sale or even think about selling my old stuff as I prefer to give them away.

That is such a great thing to encourage! People need to acknowledging donating more.
Sadly a lot of places do not accept things with holes or even stains, but it can be something to just drop off at shelters and such and hope they accept things.

@ramapo17 Shelters probably would, but places like salvation army or other charity places are still picky because they want the best for others.

We have donation boxes for clothes in the streets.. Guess what news comes? Someone just stole the old clothes for making money after refreshing these old clothes... What a shame on the stolens.

Very well said Nancy! I never throw anything away. It's recycle, recycle ,recycle for me! I try to make sure everything gets reused somehow!
And sadly, what a lot of places need right now is gas, and that's not something we can just donate unfortunately.

I do donate to the Kidney foundation. I only throw away stuff with holes.
