Happy Autumn Equinox!

Japan
September 22, 2017 3:09am CST
I didn't realize until this morning that today is officially the beginning of autumn in the Northern hemisphere and Spring in the Southern. It has been feeling a bit fall-ish here recently, but yesterday was very hot, so I had not quite gotten in the mood. I also would like to notice whether it's true that daylight and night are equal. If the sun came up at 5:30, it should also go down by 5:30, right? I'm not absolutely sure that happened. But then I am inside in a windowless room and it is 5:08 pm. I don't do anything special for the equinox but I think it's an interesting scientific thing. Do you do anything or does the equinox make you think of anything?

Nothing special, but the longer nights mean it is nearing Christmas time!

Eeek, that means it's nearer Christmas concerts, and I haven't chosen all the music yet! (actually I start rehearsals for those in November)

The scene might have been so lovely in your place.

Not yet, it just is the calendar start of autumn. We don't get beautiful Japanese fall colors until November and then it's really wonderful! The Japanese maples turn brilliant red!

You are probably not excited about the long dark nights!

The equinox is not special in this part of the world, only mentioned on the calendar as the start of Autumn.

I don't think of equinox as something special and am sure that most people aren't aware of it, either.

Japanese actually have it marked as a holiday on their calendar but it's not a day off.
