I am a huge fan of nuts (some even follow me around) always have been and about 25 years ago this friend came by and offered me some black walnuts and I said sure, he dumped them in the yard and when I seen the black mushy mess I was not thrilled but thanks him anyways. I learned really fast to wear plastic throw away dish gloves when handling them, beat them with a hammer and took 9 thousand years to pick out enough to make cookies. But they are SO good. I even had a few take root and I still battle this trees today, I chop them down and they come back. Yesterday my new friend offered Tony black walnuts and he accepted, she is 85 and he will have to pick them up (like that is gonna happen) While I like black walnuts I am more into English walnuts, pecans and almonds. With pecans being my all time favorite, I do not mind picking up the pecans nor do I mind cracking them. I think I will stick with my pecan friend and just visit the black walnut friend. At this moment I am being very bad, I am eating Tony`s black walnut ice cream How about you? Are you as nutty as I am?

Nuts are great quick protein; perfect for sprinkling over pasta or rice. I wish I lived near places that grew pecans.

@andriaperry Pecans are so tasty. I'm sure they are one of the perks for living in the South.

I wish I could find a tree around here with nuts! My daughter and I both love them. Pecan is my favorite also! I'm having my Butter Pecan Ice Cream. Ice Cream was on sale and I told hubby I wanted 1, he got me 3 Butter Pecan. I'm gonna get a big butt!

@andriaperry They are beautiful big trees, people here make a liquor with the walnuts when they are still young inside their green cocoon.

Ah we have a black walnut tree that the squirrels love! And we get baby trees every once in a while that I have to chop down--prolific little buggers! But so tasty!

I love all things nutty too! Just not the mess involved with smashing them.

We love nuts of all sort and these are included in our menu almost daily. Although we don't grow any nuts on our property, we have plenty of places to find what we need or want. Funny thing about pecans: We have made homemade almond butter and peanut butter and cashew butter. Maybe we will try making pecan butter this year.

Yum, I bet that would be good. I used to make nut butters but have not in a while. I eat more types of nuts than the few I listed.

I haven't had black walnuts in quite a long time. My grandparents used to have walnut orchards when I was a kid and we were always getting walnuts from them. I forgot how messy those black walnuts are to deal with. We also had some neighbors who would hand those out to trick or treaters on Halloween...nobody liked getting black walnuts in their Halloween bucket. My friend Wendy's mom tried to pay us once in black walnuts when we were trying to earn money for a pizza party and we had to tell her cash only...Little Caesar's Pizza doesn't accept payment in walnuts, so neither did we.

My dad was allergic to black walnuts. I discovered when I eat them, I get a rash on my tongue. However, I can eat regular walnuts. Isn't that strange?
