I am being held hostage. Please help me.

I am being helped hostage right now. Someone told me they'd be coming over this morning to buy a pair of Realistic Nova 4 vintage speakers I have on Craigslist. But he didn't say when he was coming.
I just called him, but all I got was his message machine. I'd rather be by the pool, grading papers, but I'm being held hostage by my own politeness (and the desire to make a quick $80).
Can you free me? Tell me I should just blow it off and go to the pool, papers in hand. Hell, I might even buy a 6-pack of beer. Help me! Help me!
Have you ever been in a similar situation, where someone says they MIGHT come over, and you blow off other possible plans to accommodate them? Feh.

I have sold things via the internet in the past.
That'd include a near $10,000 motorbike and significantly greater value gold coins.
The price to be paid, method of payment, place of payment was agreed beforehand.
If they deviated from this I would never deal with them again and would leave factual bad feedback.
In this case I'd respectfully suggest the fault is partly yours.
Lock in a potential buyer to a specific time and place.

I'm not going to worry about it too much. We'll find a time when we're both available. I'm going to hit the pool after lunch. This morning, I've been alternating between MyLot and papers on my bed. I had Keith Jarrett on the stereo, so life was good. With big ticket items like you describe, no flakes allowed.

@TheHorse you're more easy going than me
I sold via ebay a few years ago (7+) and had no issues things went smooth
I sold my bike to someone in scotland through ebay...he paid a deposit and a transport cost and I hired a van and drove the bike up there and it was actually a very nice experience

The postmen or express couriers are always like that, you're lucky enough if they tell you the day.
That's quite inconsiderate of his, he could have at least told the time of the day, more or less, so you can be free for a few hours.

@celticeagle It's just a part of life. I leave my cell phone at home most of the time. I enjoy my "alone time."

@TheHorse you can grade papers today glad you and your young friend came! Take advantage of pool weather. Did the guy end up coming or responding?

When I ran the animal shelter on my property @TheHorse , it was by appointment only. Some of those yabi-hoobers would show up whenever they felt like it instead. And then after me waiting for 3 or 4 hours they would show up and then not adopt an animal. Grrrrrrrrr

By your title I thought you were really held hostage. Tied to a chair in some basement with the lights off, being interrogated. Glad it wasn't the case.

I hate it when this happens. I say, you just go to the pool and chug your six-pack.

I can't abide rude people like that. It's so frustrating waiting. I posted an item for sale on a local on line yard sale and a woman messaged me that she was interested. When I asked when she wanted to see it, she said she was just kidding. I told her she needed to get a life.

@TheHorse No, I looked at her profile on FB and she's an adult. Maybe she was bored, but really? She has nothing better to do? That's why I told her she needed to get a life.

@1creekgirl The words "f*ck off"are in my head, but of course I would never say that on MyLot.

I've had that happen to me when the cable people had to come over. They never say exactly when they will come. Just give you a big time frame and you have to be home all that time waiting for them to arrive. And enough times they arrive right toward the end of the said time frame. You could have been getting other things done or just having fun outdoors somewhere. Instead, you sit home like an idiot, waiting and waiting and waiting...
I've also had it happen when some people agreed to meet up with hubby and I. They said they would come soon. We waited and waited and they showed up many hours later. Didn't even give us a head up they will be held up. That really upset me... Could have been doing other stuff. Instead sat there and waited...
