Been Leery About being On Here

For those who are wandering why I haven't been on here much lately is that I am very leery at the moment after getting a notice when I was on here the other day in the process of commenting and after hitting submit I received a pop up telling me I was just infected with a virus much similar to another time afew months back. I didn't fall for it this time as though they said don't shut computer off and call this number I shut the computer off, removed the battery for a few minutes and rebooted after putting the battery back in and after seeing things run normally I did a virus scan with my anto-virus scan and everything was OK (so it probably was one of the scammers that took me a few months back for about 50 dollars. I am learning to be careful and if I need to have something taken care of I ill take the computer to a company or person I trust in ton and notone on line saying they are. Hope everyone is doing OK

That is a common scam I see that sometimes when I have paid one of my bills online. "Attention so and so customer, we have detected blah blah blah. Call 1-800 so and so and speak to a technician" NOT.

NOT also after learning my lesson (funny they try to get you by lowering the price til you take it thinking your computer is locked til you do, but I learned that by unplugging, reemoving your battery from lapptop afor a few minutes then reboot and run virus scan all is well (or else I would take the computer to a trusted place in town and not do repairs on line on phone with someone in China

Hmmm, maybe run a malware or virus scan.

The problem is not My Lot, instead it's your anti-virus that isn't working for you. This website can't control what kind of anti-virus you're protected with or if it's not doing its job.

It ending up not being a virus but someone trying to scam putting fear in people thinking they got a virus and will call that number without first cheecking which I do by rebooting and running a virus scan

@Elizaby That is so sneaky, giving a number to get rid of a virus, then putting one in!:(

The notice you saw is due to a fairly common little malware which installs itself on your computer and pops up at lome time later. It is almost certainly nothing to do with myLot but most likely came with something you opened, installed or ran at some time previously. You should find and install a reliable antivirus program which also checks for adware and run a full scan. If you already have one, you should make sure that you have the llatest update installed before running a scan. I am using Avast (the free version) and have found it very satisfactory.

Good that you are getting smarter these days! I have even had phone callers telling me something similar. I just hang up and block their number.

I'm very happy you didn't fall prey to that again. I've been seeing it when I go to various sites, so I just back out of it and no problem. I have Avast and it keeps telling me everything is good.
