Even though the current football season was supposed to be the final year of the current contract of Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, he had signed a contract extension a while back. Caldwell has been the head coach of the Detroit Lions since 2014 succeeding Jim Schwartz taking the Lions to the playoffs twice in the three years he has been the head coach of the Lions. It is evident that Lions general manager Bob Quinn has decided to work with Caldwell past the 2017 football season since the Lions seem to be on the right track to get into Super Bowl contention in the near future. The one setback Caldwell has had as the head coach of the Lions is that in the two playoff games he has coached the Lions, they lost both first round playoff games.
