This is what I felt like saying to a woman today. I didn't but I thought it. I was at the farmer's market today and a woman came by with her 2 young kids about 4 and 6 years. She was walking by and paying no attention to them, instead she was texting. The kids stopped at my table and began pulling my items off the rack. She was right behind them but was so occupied she didn't notice. I gently took the items away from the kids and put my display back together. As I was doing this she finally looked up from her phone and told the kids they shouldn't touch anything they didn't buy. She walked off, no apology. Do you get frustrated when someone is texting and not paying attention to what's going on around them or to their children?

Yes I do and I will say something, it isn't safe for young kids if the parents aren't paying attention to them. One reason that I think cell phones should be left at home. Also I think some people just shouldn't have cell phones even if they aren't parents.

You are right. I am amazed at how many small children have cell phones. If the adults can't use them responsibly the kids won't either.

@Freelanzer I agree and I think that kids should unplug, why does anyone have to be connected to electronics all the time? I always get a funny look when asked for my cell number when I say I don't have one.

I tend to hesitate as parents can get quite offended if you call attention to their parenting skills.

@Freelanzer yes, but if they're doing wrong.. it should be said. Especially when it comes to not paying attention to their kids while out around people.

I completely get what you are saying. Ssdly parents now a days are selfish and immature. They see their own needs instead of the children.

@Freelanzer i see this with friends and its sad. Why have children if you dont want to take care of them even a dog. But while out in public someone could walk by and steal them. I watched at an event 2 young kids walking lost. I made a comment someone can walk by and steal them then the parents make a big stink.

@ricki_911 I get that all the time. I have young neighbors who moved i next door and I am appalled at how neglectful they are. The kids have the best toys but I watch the parents out in the yard on their cell phones while young kids under six years roam and get into a lot of trouble. Anyone could pass by and grab them or they could be hit by a vehicle.

Yes sure. Texting is less here in India. Phone calls are cheap.

I think people just do't want to talk to each other anymore, they just rather send a message.

@Freelanzer Yes. direct communication is more valid than indirect one.

She might be an aunt or a babysitter, who was not too keen on the job. But then again, when you take kids out for an outing, you have to be extra vigilant, not be distracted like that lady.

Yeah, today people focus on their phones so much. Even if you have a meal in the restaurant, people still look at their own phones and this is also called a meal together

@Freelanzer It is the same here. Some parents are just not aware of the safety of their children. I don't want they will learn a big lesson after something goes wrong.

I've seen that where parents are out with their kids and pay no attention to them as they are always on their phone.

There's a time and place for everything. When we are out somewhere my full attention is on my kids. Not only for behavior concerns but this is a scary, crazy world. I don't want my kids to come up missing.

I never want my kids to annoy other people so I too used to keep a close eye on them when out and safety is always a concern
