I've Never Lived Alone

Would you believe that at my ripe old age of 70 yrs I've never lived alone? Of course my younger years were spent living at home with my parents and brother. When I graduated from high school and went to nursing school I lived in a dormitory and had a roommate. I got engaged while in nursing school and lived with my parents until I got married and then of course I lived with my husband. The kids came along and then he left. As the the kids grew up and then married someone was still living at home. By the time the last kid was getting married my mom has to give up her home and come live with me. When I moved to Pennsylvania almost 8 years ago mom came with me. Last year my daughter came back home as she is going through a divorce, my mom got sick and passed away last October so here I am with my youngest daughter as my roommate. When she went away last weekend I enjoyed the few days alone but realized that I really don't like living alone. I wasn't lonely but it's so much nicer having someone else living in the house with me. Weird how life goes isn't it.

I have also never lived alone my friend.. I have often thought about this...there were brief times when I lived alone while working overseas, but mostly in life, there were always people around me.

When I was thinking about this the other day I thought it was weird that at my age I've never lived alone. I have friends who are widows now and trying to get accustomed to living alone.

@Marilynda1225 Yes it makes you think doesn´t it Marilyn..I know what you mean..feel like sometimes I had missed out somehow..but that is a silly thought really, but one thing I know for certain is I would be just fine if I was alone and would love the peace.

I've never technically lived alone but I am alone in the house a lot of the time. It's a good thing that I'm independent.

Being alone for periods of time are different I think than those who actually live alone and have no one else sharing space. Being independent is wonderful

I too have never lived alone. There have been times when I was left alone for a few days. The quiet was great for about 5 minutes. LOL.

Living alone doesn't appeal to me but I do enjoy time alone. Even when I'm alone I need music or the tv on for company. Yes the quiet isn't something I think I'd get used to either

I think that you are part of a very loving family. I've never lived alone either, and I don't think that I'd want to. I have always secretly worried how I would manage if my husband went before me, but strangely enough, our son told us a few weeks ago that he is at an age where he wants to help us and will do anything for us. We don't need any help right now, but its reassuring to know that if or when something happens we can count on him.

Being able to count on your kids is wonderful especially as we age. I'm sure that if I couldn't live alone I'd be living with one of my kids.

@Marilynda1225 Up to 2015 I lived with my son in the city - then I moved to the family home in the country, and he visits every other weekend. So right now I am alone but not fully. I live in a two bedroom two bathroom apartment on the grounds of the big house - so other family members are my closest neighbors. I think I prefer living alone most of the time.

I do not think I have, either, although sometimes I have felt more alone than if I had some company.

Life really can be strange. I never lived alone either. I lived at home until I got married a year after graduating from high school. I'm glad you have your daughter for company.

@Marilynda1225 My grandparents' generation seemed to marry even younger than we did. My son didn't marry until he was 33 and had his son at 35. By the time I was 35, I had a 15 year old son and a 10 year old daughter!

Back in the day we got married earlier than people get married now so I guess we didn't have much time between high school and marriage to be or live alone

LOL yes cooking for one isn't much fun. I never could understand why my mom never wanted to cook after my dad passed away and she lived by herself for many years.

I've never lived alone either. I was at my parents for a long time, as Hubby was with his . . . and then we got our own apartment and eventually got married and had kids.

@Marilynda1225 I've been robbed before and had someone try to break in at night once, so if something like that were to ever happen again, I wouldn't want to be alone.

I'm not scared at night but I do get leery if a bad storm passes by and then I wouldn't want to be alone

I lived a long after my daughter left to go to College. It was so nice and what a great feeling. My boyfriend is gone a lot of the time for work and so most of the time I am alone here in our home. I do love living alone and I also love when he is home and living with him. Both are gerat for me.

My grandmother, and my mom never lived alone either. So far, neither have I. Nothing wrong with it, unless the person don't like it. And if not, then make a change.

I have lived alone for about 4 years though most times i had people coming for sleepovers. Sometimes i enjoyed the peace and quiet but when the extrovert in me comes alive I would feel so lonely.

I am like you in that I like company and someone to talk to. When I'm home alone the tv is on or music is playing. I hate quiet for long periods of time

@Marilynda1225 you must be an extrovert then right? But we also have our moments where all we need is peace and quiet
