Last night I was in an Oktoberfest party celebration in our city together with my Thai workmates, their friends and my Pinay friend. My Pinay friend, one of my workmates and I didn't wear Dirndln.
Some of you might not know what a Dirndl / Dirndln (plural) is. It is a dress a German woman wears on Oktoberfest celebration. This style of dress is still use by the women living in the remote places especially those living in the mountains.
Modern Dirndln are beautiful made dresses that some Hollywood actresses wear those when attending Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the origin of Oktoberfest.
My reason for not wearing Dirndl was that I don't like to spend at least 50€ for a dress that I can only use once a year. So, I only bought Dirndl blouse for the party. What shocked me was what my Pinay friend told me. She didn't like to wear a Dirndl because she didn't want to be looking like a maid.
WHAT? I said why? She said the uniform for a maid in the Philippines was the same as Dirndl. I said maybe the one who started giving uniform of a maid has seen the Cinderella fairy tale.
What do you think about it? Would you like to wear Dirndl?
Anyway, we had fun enjoying the Oktoberfest party and I thought of buying a Dirndl when the season is over. The typical Bavarian dress will be cheaper then.
The photo was my workmates wearing Dirndln last night.

Dirndln were indeed worn by maids before they became fashionable in the cities.
I wrote a post about this last year.
@thelme For 50 Euro you get only a cheap dirndl which was probably sewn in Bangladesh. If you go to Munich, you can see that an elegant dirndln can cost thousands.
As I've made clear in my post, I'd never wear a dirndl. I hate folkloristic fashion.
For many foreign visitors, especially the ones from overseas who do Europe in five days, Germany shrinks to Bavaria, Bavaria shrinks to Munich. Munich means...

Really @MALUSE? I didn't know that. Yes, I have seen Dirndln in Munich when I was there a few years ago. I wanted to buy one but the cheapest was 500€. It was beautiful but the price was almost a return ticket for going home to the Philippines. Thanks for the link. I will check that out.

I don't buy any type of costume for any occasion. I'd rather show up as me and have just as much fun.

Why do you say that you will not look pretty wearing this? Maybe you are. Do you have a photo of you wearing Dirndl when you were 12? I hope you have and surely you were looking gorgeous in that dress @TiarasOceanView

I see. Now I understand why my friend said that to me. That is because of the apron I suppose. Thanks for this photo @m_audrey6788

Yes, it is @acelawrites. My friends and I are thinking of buying Dirndln when the price is affordable. That is when the Oktoberfest is over. Then next year we can wear them.
