I have a autumn butterfly garden and it was totally unplanned. The annual flowers are now in full bloom and the butterflies are loving it. They are a welcome and unexpected addition to the garden. It is the first time I have seen so many of this type of butterflies in the garden this late in the season and it is beautiful thing. I just hope the frost stays away for awhile longer so we can enjoy this butterfly garden a little longer. I think they are called painted lady but can be mistaken for monarch butterflies.

For some reason, we don't have lots of pretty colorful butterflies here. Real odd! Perhaps it is too cold here for pretty butterflies. (I pinched a cutting of that type of flowers for my garden from a big shopping mall close to where I live, deep dark brown/reddish. Don't know if it is still alive or not, I have to go check. )

@YrNemo I have had some white daisy plants this year but they have reached the end of blooming. The purple must be lovely.

@Freelanzer They are all daisy, Osteospermum I think. I used to have the purple flower (black middle). I saw other white with curly petals, quite interesting. They are a very strong type of plant, and tend to go everywhere. Snails and Slugs love this plant. (Part of the reason why I didn't worry much when we left the other property with that purple daisy!)

Butterflies are treat to watch. You are lucky that you have such a garden where butterflies keep visiting. Due to massive urbanization, we are going away from nature.

Normally the city would spray chemicals to keep mosquitoes away. Luckily we had little to no mosquitoes this year so they didn't spray. I think that may have something to do with having so many butterflies this year.

Must have been a beautiful sight. I guess they got the name the name "Painted Lady" because of their vivid colors?
