My very own Susie Easy Bake Oven

I don't think I ever got an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas when I was a kid. We did buy a toaster oven early in my marriage- the main electric stove quit working, the landlord refusing to provide another, we bought a used toaster oven and continued on. So yesterday I bought another used toaster oven. This one rather massive. I made pot pies from scratch and then took the gamble......will it work and bake the pies or turn the crust into not so edible mush? It did! It did! Toasty crust here we come..... First though, a walk then home to dig in.

Congratulations on your successful pot pies. I never got one either. I had a toaster oven once, but gave it away. Very small and I never used it.

Thanks @just4him. This oven is supposed to have a convection feature to it. Hubby has talked for years about convection ovens so I got it partly for him. I've never played with such things so its going to be a learning experience. And a huge thing: this oven uses dials to work. Not like our big oven. The big oven is digital and visual. Hubby is so frustrated with that oven cause he can't use it. When I go to see our daughter next month now hubby will have an oven to use if he wants to.

@sallypup That's good he has one he can use. The stove in the apartment is digital. I had to call the office and have someone show me how to work it the first time I used it.

@just4him I had a hard learning curve on this new fangled stove as well as the fancy washing machine that came with this house. I'm glad you got help on your stove. I sure felt like a dunce at first with mine.

@Essjayd I don't remember the cupcake maker. One of my sisters gave me a fortune cookie maker that I just loved. There must have been a mix for the fortune cookies but I don't remember how I made the cookies.

@Essjayd That is adorable. Thanks for showing me that. I suppose the maker was only pink. Little boys would enjoy that toy if the color didn't put them off. I wonder if there were little packets of frosting to go with the maker? Did you plug it in?

@sallypup There was a cup cake maker when I was a kid. In hindsight it was the type of thing that would get used twice and sit in a cupboard as all it did was make cupcakes!!

@sallypup lol I suspect I would rather just have the veg and skip the meat, fake or otherwise altogether. They look yummy to me.

@BelleStarr That's the beauty of being the cook: do what fits your mood. I like to fiddle with pie crust.

@BelleStarr These are vegetarian pies. Fake meat strips with peas and carrots, onions, potato chunks. I topped it all with spicy gravy. If you liked turkey or ham, of course you could put that in instead of the fake meat strips.

I have never owned a toaster oven. What else can you make with it.

@jstory07 I believe I can use this toaster oven like I would use the big oven. Only it uses less electricity so my electric bill shouldn't be quite so high. I plan to bake potatoes in it and vegie patties and even the gingerbread cake that hubby has mentioned. This oven is pretty large so I imagine I can fit quite a bit in it. I probably will continue to use the big regular stove when I make bread cause there are so many buns and I want to get the job done as quickly as possible.
