Family Dilemma

I don't want to make my brother angry. I love him and like the fact he lives behind us on our property, but his dog is so destructive. Mine are too, but I keep my in a fence unless we are hanging out outside to watch them. I got most of my decorations, for Halloween, out this past weekend. The dog has managed to tear up and destroy most of my decorations. My husband had to build gates on our porch entrances to keep the dog from destroying porch furniture. My brother always forgets to shut the gates when he leaves our house. He did that this morning and now the dog has taken off with some of my porch decorations. Any ideas on how to repel dogs for certain places or items?

I wonder why they do that. Instinctive I guess. I have no idea how to control it except with maybe with game bones that they can take and bury. Never had that experience. I would have a serious conversation with that dog in private or in front of your brother. What's his name? The Dog's name I mean.

@gnatsmom let us know how it plays out. I had a family of skunks perious year under my step. This year with the aid of moth balls and the next door neighbours pup german shep they have not been back. Sometimes these things take time?

The bone idea is not bad. I might try that or something similar.

Talking with your brother showing the mess his dog created can be considered, I hope you find some solution to your problem :)

Oh no, I'm sorry the dog messed with your things. =( I'm not sure of any ideas because my dog doesn't mess with anything, except her toys.

This dog has a basket of toys in my yard and a box of toys on my brothers porch and still doesn't play with them. She just tears everything up. She is really sweet and good with kids, but destroys everything.

If this continues; you might have to talk with your brother about it. He should understand your concerns about it.

I have tried talking with him before. He gets angry with me and threatens to give the dog away or move since I am so bothered by his dog. It is manipulation, I know. But it bothers me when he makes those statements.
